Yours truly, | THE ORACLE. | Co HE REAL SUPER-POWER With Scientists reported | be on the trail of a new, ower, “which” they edict willy usher in the! uper- ic homb and the we of *siper-atomic power, | she news comes of-a super=! deadly poisen, which is so! powerful that an inch cube size of it, roughly an ounce, could ‘kill every person liv-| ing in the United States and! Canada silently and swiftly. In connection with these | items, we remember that! the atom bomb itself has not! revolutioned the processes of the earth and that the super-poison, even if as pow- erful as described, could not; be distributed through the two nations in a way to kill everybody. It about time that| somebody called attention to} another power which ex- ists in the world and exer- cises dominance over many haman beings. It is the pow- et of religion, as practised in various forms, by the peo-j ples of the earth. Every- where h the world there are honest, sincere and kindly human beings, determined to make-the earth a better place for better people. The third power, describ- ed in the above paragraph, wets very few headlines, but it-will prove more potent than all the explosive forces released by scientists and all| the super-poisons developed by man. Despite its great! potential power and its ef- feet upon individuals, this spiritdal force has ~ been hampered-by.the misguided “efforts of men and women | Who divide their energy and geste their time upon non- es*eutials. a nay be, someday, men anf women of good-will throughout the world, will | have setse enough to work together for their common} good, They can whip atomic bombs and super-poisons. ofte is Drive slowly; it will save vour tires and maybe your life. On aceount of the hurri- cane scare, the school chil- dvep of Key West were de- Vigdtted they got a day’s | people is their refusal to be j gouged. That | the higher they | applied to clothing. bample supply -catches _government maintains UNBREAKABLE LAW Judging from the many. reports that had come to The Citizen, Key West housewives seemed to be un- der the impression that, be- cause of the lifting of ceil- ings on the prices of meat, they would have had to pay exorbitant amounts for a good-sized roast or steak. But the first issue of The Citizen to carry the prices of beef in local markets since ceilings were removed by OPA dispelled the idea of rocketing prices. Consider- ing the record amounts paid for cattle in the Chicago and} Kansas City stockyards, the retail prices for beef in Key West, as advertised in The Citizen, appeared to be fair and reasonable. And there is likely to be further decreases due to the toppling of prices at the stockyards. It is safe to assume that, before long, meats will be available at what used to be} OPA ceiling prices. That! never-failing law of supply! and demand shortly will be- come effective. Stockyards were glutted with cattle within three days after ceil- ings were removed, and the first and second day the prices soared, and on the third day they dropped al-| most as much as they had soared. An outstanding charac- teristic of* the American was demon- strated forcifully a year or so after the first World War. As a result of the war, prices went up and up, and | went the more resentful became the} American public. And then, as though it happened over- night, a buyers’ strike was in effect throughout the coun- try, and down came the prices, particularly as they And a_ similar outcome undoubtedly will occur now, for the chief ‘reason that the United States is the greatest industrial nation in the world,. with ‘resources so up ee Key West In Days Gone By AS TAKEN FROM FILES OF THE CITIZEN OF OCT. 19, 1936 Joseph Richardson, _ master, counsellor of the Robert J. Perry Chapter, Order of DeMolay, has called a. meeting for tonight in Scottish Rite Hall. First of the $3,600 fund for the construction of the proposed Ov- erseas Highway bridges was made available today, according to an Associated Press dispatch from Washington to The Citizen. ee { Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Jolly to- day announce the birth of a son on Monday in their home at 506 Grinnell street. The newcomer has been named Dennis. Jonathan Pinder, 53, died this | morning at 3:30 o’clock in his home at 717 Love lane. Funeral services will be conducted to- morrow afternoon in the Flem- ing Street Methodist Church by | the Rey. Shuler Peele. During the two days that ab- sentee voting began in the coun- ty judge’s office, only one bal- lot has been cast. The voter was A. C. Jenks, keeper of Fowey Rocks lighthouse, who was in Key West on his quarterly vaca- tion. “ Paul H. Marks, formerly of Key West, informs The Citizen that the Key West Club of Dade County now has several hundred members. Motors and generators for the iferries “Traveler” and “Pilgrim,”; | which will be used to operate in the water gaps in the Over- seas Highway, West today. Today The Citizen says in an editorial paragraph: “Now is the time politicians try to be instead of convincing.” FISHING TRIP The lucky fisherwomen on Fri; day’s USO Navy Wives Club fish- ing trip were Mrs. Myrtle Bracktl, Mrs. Jerry Tonden, Mrs. Judy Faulds and Mrs. Eleanor Byron, who had fine catches of snappers, and grunts, caught off Big Pine when all ingenious with demand and..effects re- ad jpstments. : The election next month will determine which prog- nosticators were} right. In all walks of life there are individuals who insist upon running, particularly the politicians. They never walk but always run to of-| fice. ELECTION IN RUMANIA I, “Free elections are not possible until democratic lib- erties are given back to the! ° country,” declares Consian-} tin Bradanu, liberal leader of Rumania. Dr. Juliu Maniu, leader of the National Peasant party, also attacks the election lisi compiled for the Rumanian | election as says that the Communist} the dictatorship svstem by op- pressing all those who are not adherent to it. Asserting that the coming election will be a sham, he suggests the presence of unbiased con- trollers. ‘Moral: Never take any- thing for granted that isn’t granted.
