Four Fires In 24 Hours Keep Fire Department Busy The local fire department un- der Chief Leroy Torres, respond- ed to four fires within the past twenty-four hours. The first was reported at 12:20 p. m., at the Wickers Ways on Front street. This was a small fire of some} debris that had accumulated oa wee ee Af 6:20 p. m., Tuesday. a call came from Riley Car- bonell’s Ciub 116, at Greene end Fitzpatrick streets. The fire was upstairs and was of a definite incendiary origin, as.a can of oil and matches were found near the scene. A mat- tress had caught fire. It was thrown from the second floor and put out with a booster ap- paratus. At 6:15 p. m., the firemen re- ponded to a call at Mary La- brada’s home on Johnson Lane. A frying pan cayght fire but w: put out before the fire trucks a rived at the scene. More was in store for the over- worked fire fighting force when at 4:20 this morning an alary called the department to Poin ettia Hotel, corner of Francis and Elgin. The second floor w in flames and all the armed forces’ fire fighting apparatus re- sponded to the call. Eight of water were used in ex- streams tinguishing the blaze.
