To; a youngster like myself the only stone crabs we see are those oc casionally caught in traps because they were just about extinct before my time. But. Sam says wher he went out on the American Bank just across the way from Curry’s. wharf, he used to walk for miles on the flat searching out the holes where the crabs lived. Some of these holes are four feet deep. He would in- sert a hook-shaped rod and the crab would seize a hold on it and) be pulled out. Sometimes oe crab would let go and then Sam would have to hook it up under- neath. The Wom- an’s Club have no one who could take over charge, although they have suggested that they may be able to supervise it if laborers are hired by the city. The aquarium, for instance, some- times w a wonderful place and at other times was quite poorly kept up with inadequate speci- mens improperly labeled. Per- sonally I wouldn't want a job in a place which might last just two years and then I would be out on a cold, opposed political limb. Would you? This is one point where a city manager can do a lot of good. ° ° KEY WEST SCRAP BOOK There is a great deal of com- plaint over the fact that there is no literature on Key West's points of interest so that the casual visi- tor or even lengthy visitors may see all these points of interest. From time to time this column will reprint points of interest.| Suggest that you local folk clip} out these items, together with feature stories which appear in the paper about institutions of the town ard the colorful industries} of fishing and sponging, and that! you paste’them up in an ordinary scrap book. Thus if you have friends visiting you from out of town you have a wealth of ma- terial for them to examine.
