PAGE FOUR ENJOYABLE INFORMAL SATURDAY EVENING AT CONVENT HALL Saturday evening the Convent of Mary Immaculate parlor was the scene of much gaiety when the the seniors as guests at an informal banquet. The reception committee, com- posed of the Misses Olive Gato, Sylvia Baker, Nellie Trujillo, and Gloria Rivas, welcomed their guests. At five o’clock each mem- ber of the faculty was taken to the banquet room where the sopho- mores awaited them. Palms and red and white roses formed the background of the ban- quet hall. The tables, arranged in the form of an open ring, made it possible for all present to face the center of the room where a small table held the centerpiece, an ex- quisitely designed boat signifying motto, “Tonight aunch; Where Shall We An- juniors received rs for the occasion, senior had at her place a doll din gradua s cap and gown and holding in one hand a ribbon, the other end of which was in the boat. A Navy Yard workman says, “I pay $2 a day for a room in Key West and share the bath with four other people.” At the rent-control office, it was declared, “If he pays $2 a day for a room, then he must be living at a hotel. If he isn’t, then we would appreciate his coming to this office, for we know of no rooms in private families or room- ing houses that rent for so high a sum. If he knows otherwise, he may be sure we will investigate the case immediately.” The Navy Yard worker disputed the statement made in a letter to The Citizen that “the average pay of civil employes amounted to $100 a week.” He adds: , “From inquiries I have made of persons with definite knowledge of the pay of civilian employes working at the Naval Operating I am assured the average net pay is less than $50 a week.” WOMEN LOAFERS ALSO BEING ROUNDED UP County author ing women, who 1 work, in the drive West of slackers.
