PAGE FOUR 0 FALSE ALARMS] OF FIRE TURNED IN ONE ABOUT TEN THIRTY LAST NIGHT; OTHER ONE AT 3:45 A. M. There was a false alarm of fire sounded last night 1°:30 o’clock from box 234. corner of White and Catherine streets, while an- other was turned in this morn- ing at 3:45 o’clock from box 23, Duval and Southard streets. This is the sixth or seventh false alarm that has been turned in from box 23 during the past several weeks, with apparatus responding to the call in each instance. The ag stations ratus from both fire responded again last night and this morning, only to} find that there was no fire at ei- ther point from which the alarm was sent in. These false alarms are tele- phoned in to the stations, the alarm being sounded from the transmitter at the fire houses, designating the number of the box in the vicinity from where the call is received Due to the fact that the alarms of this nature from a paid telephone station, it makes it rather difficult to learn the identity of the person, When the alarm is sent in from the fire box, the person must have a key, which cannot) be removed until the fire chief] arrives on the scene, while at the same time each person having al key is registered with the Fire Department, which affords some chance of ascertaining who pull- ed the alarm.
