SURPRISE PARTY FOR MISS JOAN DOUGHTRY. Miss Joan Doughtry, youthful organist of the Ley Memortal Church, went to the parsonage Friday evening on an errand for her grandmother. Upon arriving, she was greet- ed with the singing of “Happy Birthday” by members of the choir who had gathered to help her celebrate her fourteenth birthday anniversary. After she had recovered from the surprise each person present wrote a message in an autograph book which was later presented to her. Games were played, after which the honoree and _ guests were invited into the dining room where a beautiful cake with the greeting, “Happy Birthday, Joan,” and fourteen lighted can- dle# graced the center of the table. Gifts, which surrounded it, were opened after Joan had made a wish and extinguished the candles. The birthday cake was served with ice cream to the guests, who departed at a late hour wish- ing the honoree many happy re- turns of the day. Joan declared the party was more fun than the show that she had hoped to attend with her mother and a friend that eve- ning. Those present besides the hon- oree were: Mesdames Hilda Hamlin, Clara Menendez, Mamie Sawyer, Myr- tle Bowery, Dorothy Curry, Ber- nice Park, Josephine Doughtry, William Holloway and William E.
