SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, Woman’s Club Assembled On - Tuesday For Opening Meeting; Committeemen Are Announced Mrs. Frederic W. Knapp, presi- dent of the Woman’s Club, an- nounced the committee chairmen and members for the ensuing year, at the opening meeting of the; club'held Tuesday afternoon at the club house on Duval street. Adopting for its slogan for the year—Key, West, “A Cleaner} City,” the club hopes to sponsor| and initiate projects that will im- prove the city’s sanitary condi-} tions and also add to the natural beauty of the island. Mrs. Stephen W. Douglass, past presidnet of the club, brought to| the attention of the members, the! fact that the luxuriant tropical! shrubbery which adds to the at- tractiveness of the new. Officer's Club grounds was planted by the members of the Woman’s Club several years ago to beautify what was then used as an Ocean Park. Five new members were intro- | duced by the membership com-! mittee chairman, Mrs. Douglass: Mrs. Larry Gardner, Mrs. Glenn Buie, Mrs. James . Hearn, Mrs.’ Louise Alber and Pre, egjn: Piitchard. Warren, public welfare chairman cited the accomplishments of the special service committees of the American Red Cross. This work; being aided by the members of the; club. She asked for help in the Red Cross production rooms sit- uated in the club building, to finish sewing bath robes. This work is directly under the super-| vision of Mrs. Dan Navarro. She| also asked support for the Nurse’s | Aide Class, being organized by Mrs. J. Y. Porter, Jr.; the Motor Corps, the Nutrition and Canteen Classes, First Aid Classes and the Home Nursing Classes. Immediately following Mrs. Warren's report, Mrs. Eva Warner dedicated her solo , “Angels of Mercy” to the workers in the Red Cross, Mrs. Emeline Bodler was the accompanist. ! Mrs. John Gardner, library chairman announced the donation | of several new books to the; Library and asked the club wo- men-. to. bring, .magazings,. and books to the Library—the former! being passed on to service. boys. Mrs. Wm. R. Warren, chairman of the building fund, reported that the women of the club had been able through various proj- ects to earn money during the summer, which is being used to} continue the improvements on the club building. She announced an oyster supper to be held in the club rooms on October 15th. Mrs. Helen Welch Hoglund, new hospitality chiarman at the Jackson Square U. S.
