IN MEMORIAM John Christian Gekeler February 6, 1941 On February Fourth, Nineteen | | Hundred Forty One, the citizens | of this community were shocked | and grieved because of the death | |of the Reverend John Christian Gekeler. | His friends had become very | Solicitous because of his apparent | illness, but were not prepared for the end so soon. Rotarian John Gekeler, true to the teachings of Rotary and his religion, lived a life of service, actively and enthusiastically in- terested in welfare work and con- | tinuously striving for the social, | moral and spiritual uplift of the community. Past President of the Key West Rotary Club, President of the Ministerial Alliance and Secretary of the County Welfere Board are | some of the activities that indicate the direction of his energies. | The members of the Key West | ‘Rotary Club know from personal experience how valuable were his teachings and educational talks to |us and especially to members on the objects and ideals of Rotary. | In Church, at Rotary luncheons and civic meetings, his hearers listened intently whenever he had something to say, for he was al- ways prepared with an approp- riate message, address or prayer. It is fitting that Rotarians | should elect in meeting assembled, resolutions expressing our | sorrow and compassion with those of his relatives and friends and we | do therefore extend our sincere sympathy to his Widow. Therefore, be it resolved by the Rotary Club of Key West, that we pledge ourselves to continue this public welfare work. Be it fur- |ther resolved that a copy of this Memoriam be presented to the widow and family, spread upon | Joan jour minutes and published in the | local paper. Resolutions prepared and of- fered by Rotarian William R Warren and adopted by the Rotary Club at a regular meeting held February 6th, 1941 at Key West, Florida KEY WEST ROTARY CLUB President Everett W.
