PAGE FO SOCIETY -:- Champagne Hour Saturday Night Big Success Waltz and a Polka were chosen for } Continued and sustained ap- plause greeted the finalists in the Champagne Hour contest staged at. the Casa Marina Saturday eve- ning, so that it was difficult to place the three pairs of finalists in their respective positions for the award of champagne. How- ‘ever, a most articulate crowd of spectators eventually chose Mrs. Earl LeRoy Wood, of Newark, N. J. partnered with J. W. Gayle, of Richmond, Indiana, as winners. ‘The deciding dance was a Vien- nese Waltz, which they performed to perfection. Runners-up were Mrs. Guy Carleton paired with Alden Kimball, and also in the final roundup were Miss Annette Bose paired with Samuel Judd. Jack Cole, manager of the Ar- thur Murray Studio at the Casa Marina, is to be congratulated on the excellent partner he selected in Miss Jane Peabody who was doing a little pinch-hitting. Miss Peabody tackled the job like an expert and her consummate grace in dancing was much admired. Between them, they put the hour over in great style. A Tango, Catholic Daughters Hold Initiation An impressive ceremony mark- ed the initiation of three new members into the Catholic Daugh- ters on Wednesday evening, Janu- ary 22. Mrs, Mary Milner, Mrs, Mary McKnight and Miss Jose- phine Lopez were the candidates accepted. Mrs. Eva Warner was reinstated with the Catholic Daughters. Following the initiation, Rev. P. J. Kelleher, S. J., gave an in- teresting address to the group in attendance. He stressed the need for good womanhood in the world today and explained that by their example, they could, in a large degree, bring out the nobleness of young persons’ characters. He asked that the Catholic Daugh- ters, in their every day duties, promote unity among their fellow men, and by their loyalty to God and to themselves, they would no doubt bring about beneficial ef- fects among their fellow men. He asked that they overlook the nar- rowness of other persons’ opinions and “try to see the good and not the mote.” He advocated con- structive criticism which would help develop right principles, and he asked that each person, in his small way, help in this direction. Following this addiess, delight- ful refreshments were servey by Mrs. Helen Parks, Mrs. Rose Crusoe and Mrs. Janie Smith. Members present included the following: Rev. P. J. Kelleher, 8. J., Mrs. Virginia Demeritt, Mrs. Mamie Russell, Mrs. Regla Gwynn, Mrs. Rita Delvillar, Mrs. Josephine Piodela, Mrs. Pearl Sawyer, Mrs. Helen Parks, Mrs. Rose Crusoe, Mrs. Janie Smith, Mrs, Virginia Baker, Mrs. Mary Milner, Mrs. Eva Warner, Mrs. McKnight, Miss Josephine Lopez, Mrs. Mamie DeBarcee, Mrs. Mamie Knowles, Mrs. Blanche Hewett, Mrs. Letitia Sul- Hyan, Mrs. Vivian Tynes, Mrs. Margaret Dion, Mrs. Ella Gaiti, Miss Anna Corcoran, Mrs. Mar- garet Doran, Mrs. Adelaide Ells- worth, Mrs. Victoria Yradi.
