Mr. Offutt re- vealed that the High School five had been withdrawn from the last circuit in favor of the Airmen. In explaining his action, Mr. Offutt said: “At first it was thought VP53 would be unable to enter a club in the league, but Thursday a number of the <viators told me they wanted to organize a club ——— LEAGUE OPENING TONIGHT Island League's epens tonight in the High School Gym with a double- header, beginning at 7:00 o'clock. Pepper's Plumbers, former champions, will take on the newly-organized NavSta five in the curtain-raiser. Present city champs, Lions Club. will dribble the ball in and that they felt sure they could do so. Friday they brought me their entry, and I have decided to enter them in place of the High School. “In so doing, I feel that the fel- lows belonging to service organi- zations in Key West need the ehance for athletic competition. The High School team was plac- ed in the first-half in order to assure a balanced league. The varsity players will soon enter upon a scholastic schedule and will be provided with enough competition. However, if any team defaults in the league, the High School will be ready to re- place that team and maintain a balanced league. “I feel that with the Lions, Peppers, Marines, Army, VP53 and NavSta, ‘we will have a fine league full of competition, with many close and exciting games for the basketball fans of Key West”. Accordingly, the Airmen will play all games scheduled for the High School, thus eliminating the necessity of revising the sehedule. Tonight’s doublehead- er will be unchanged. Rester of the VP53: R.
