Submitted to the board two baseball games and one soft- ball contest. Board of Managers of each sport voted in favor of the action at recent regular meet- ings. Written and oral statements in ach case were presented for con- ideration by managers and um- pires affected. Board members, after openly discussing the pro and con of each argument, re- quested that interested persons retire while they arrived at their decisions. Plumber-Barber Game First game considered was the scheduled opening affair of the Civilian Softball League between Sawyer’s Barbers and Pepper's Plumbers on the night of Sep- tember 30 at Bayview Park. Um- pire-in-chief C. Amos had award- ed the contest to the Barbers be- ce of insufficient Plumber players. However, from the evi- » submitted, it was found Peppers did have ten men on the field when the umpire called “play ball” at scheduled time. The evidence that figured most n the commission’s decision to re-schedule the game was the argument fostered by the Bar- coach, Oscar Capote, who med the Plumbers had to for- feit the contest as all members were not in uniform. No rule or regulation of the Joint Commit- tee of tball or the by-laws of the Key West Amateur Softball Association requires every mem- ber or any member of a team to appear on the field in full uni- form. Capote’s contention on the night of the game, it was brought out, resulted in a lengthy dis- cussion between officials and players, during which Several members of the Peppers became ted and left the field. This the umpire-in-chief no other course but to award the ne to the Barbers when he “play ball” the second | time following the ten-minute grace period. Inasmuch as Capote instigated a long, drawn-out argument on a rule that never existed, the board members were of the opinion it was only fair to both teams to re- chedule the contest. Conch-Pirate Game It was unanimously voted the Conch-Pirate baseball per 29 re played, nat H. Munro, sol- dier utility player, become the property of the Pirates. The de- cision giving Munro to the Bucs was due to the fact that the Pirates were the first tea’ on which the soldier had seen action a regular Island City League me. Originally, Mur had been included in the Conch roster. Contest was submitted to the col sion due to a charge that Manager Roy. Hamlin of the Conchs and Manager Paul Al- bury of the Pirates transferred Munro from the former team to the latter. Evidence proved the charge groundless. Marine-Blue Sox Game al case submitted for deci- ion was that of the Marine-Blue Sox game, which was the open- ing affair of 2 doubleheader on September 29 at Navy Field. Charge was that Byars, starting Sox rightfielder in the contest in question, used an_ infielder’s glove in violation of an official rule. The charge was proved correct. However, Byars was removed from the game when the score stood 2-0 in favor of the Marines. were lisgu: called as NAVSTA TONIGHT ARMY AND MARINES IN SEC- OND GAME OF SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER U.S. Army and U.S. Marines will struggle for second place in|West Amateur Softball Associa-j the Service Softball League when they meet on Bayview Park field tonight in the first game of a scheduled K.W.A.S.A. double- header. Leathernecks, who were ousted from first place last week by VP53, must defeat the Soldiers to- night to gain full possession of the second rung. A victory for the Soldiers.will push them up next to the leaders and drop the Marines into third position. An evenly-matched battle is expected in the afterpiece of the twin bill between Merchants and NavSta of the Civilian League. Merchants dropped their initial game of the new season to the strong Sawyer’s Barbers. Naval Station employes possess a .500 percentage, one win and one loss. Opening contest of the night | will get under way at 7:00 o’clock and end at 8:15 o'clock. Second game will begin promptly at 8:30 o'clock. The commission voted unani- mously the game remain as play- ed and instructed the secretary to inform Manager Frank Cara-! ballo of the Bluesox that a repeti- tion of the violation would re- sult in the suspension of the play- er for three games. Lt. M. O. Donohoe, manager of the Ma- rines, addressed the commission relative to this contest, urging the final score stand, but that the official rule in question be en- forced. CCC-Marine Game Commission, considering um- Ppire-in-chief’s report of the CCC- Marine softball game of last Mon- day, ordered the contest re- scheduled as the time-limit set for the opeging affair each night had been ovér-played. The game went three minutes past the limit and it was contended that if it had been called 8:15 o’clock, the Marines would have been unable to complete their half of the fifth inning. This would have resulted in “no game” as five complete innings would not have been played. t Commission approved the soft- ball Board of Managers’ action in charging five cents for all chil- dren under 12 years of age enter- ing the grandstands at Bayview Park. + I 5 23rd day of Septem- jd@ay of July, A 000); THE KEY WEST CITIZEN MEET TOMORROW 'SOFTBALLERS WILL VOTE ON AMENDMENT TO BY-LAWS Boards of Managers of the Ke: tion and Island City Basebali League are scheduled to meet to- morrow night in City Hall, begin- ning at 7:30 o’clock. Decisions of the Board of Commission of Baseball in the Marine-Blue Sox and Pi- rate-Conch games will be cfticial- ly transmitted to the managers. Softballers will vote on an amendment to the By-Laws of the association. Specifically, the proposed amendment caiis for change of starting time, exten- sion of length and time-limit of each game of dor play- ed Monday, Wednesd i Fri- day nights at Bayv' Park. An added provision, providing that an hour and a half be allow- ed for play after umpire calls start of any game delayed by un- avoidable circumstances, will also be up for vote > same time. Considerable dissatisfaction has been expressed concerning this part of the proposed amendment and it is expected it wil! be de- leted.
