Scotland Yard Moves (By Associated Press) LONDON—Scotland Yard has new headquarters—an $890,000 10-story extension to the over- crowded Embankment building. The new Yard occupies 50,000 square feet of floor space and has been under construction three years. First big department {moving in is the criminal record office with its staff of 60 and: files and photographs of every living “worthwhile” criminal in the country. SUNDAY DINNER MOKED ham is an exceptionally good buy this week and any | number of main course dishes can be worked out with this meat. Lamb chops are slightly lower and duck- ling, which is still plentiful, is most attractively priced. Small broilers and fryers are also in the column of very good buys. In the realm of fish and other sea- food it is good news that ample sup- plies of both lobster and salmon are expected from the Boston market with the result prices will be mod- erate. Although Gulf shrimp are rather small the supply is plentiful and the price correspondingly at-, tractive. Flounders and mackerel are attractive buys but the supply of swordfish is rather limited and the price somewhat higher. Particularly good buys in fruits are fresh prunes, peaches, Isle of Pines grapefruit, Tokay grapes, Greening and MacIntosh apples. The first of the Jonathan apples are an the market and New York and Dele- ware blue grapes are coming in. With the clear weather the quality of vegetables is much improved and green beans, beets, celery, carrots, peppers, potatoes, squash and toma- toes are all abundant and very low priced. Miss Cora Anthony of the A & P Kitchens has assembled the follew- ing menus for three different budgets for Sunday dinner: Low Cost Dinner Honeydew Melon Vegetable Plate with Cauliflower in Cheese Sauce, Shredded String Beans, Baked Tomatoes Corn Sticks Apple Dumplings with Hard Sauce Tea or Coffee Medium Cost Dinner Ham Loat Macaroni Baked with Fresh Tomatoes Squash Sliced Oranges and Bananas with Coconut ’ Tea or Coffee Tg Very Special Dinner ~* Fresh Tomatoes Stuffed with Minced Cabbage Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding Fresh String Beans Bread and Butter Fresh Peach Pie Tea or Coffee CLASSIFIED COLUMN WANTED WANTED TO BUY-Girl’s bi- cycle. Thus neither the Congress nor the Supreme Court longer serves as a serious check to the carry- ing out of any mandate that may issue from the White House. Sworn to uphold the Constitu- tion, the executive has again and again flouted its provisions and has expressed views that he con- the document outmoded ind cutworn. Instead of the representative government our forefathers hand- ed down to us, we have govern- ment carried on through the cre- ation of innumerable bureaucra- ach sufficient unto itself, ssing arbitrary powers over both individuals and property, responsible only to the executive, - subject to no court review. Already the abridgment of any individual liberties has re- sulted, and we have been carried a long way toward adopting the alien concepts of totalitarian government in force under the European dictatorships. The ultimate result of a contin- uance of these trends can only mean the destruction of democ- Tacy by our own hands, rather than by any threat emanating from a foreign power. The New Deal must, then, _ be judged not only by the record it has already made but by what is its clear intent and purpose should it be continued in power. Thus far in the present cam- paign there has been no effort to; explain, or to defend, the waste; and extravagance that has brought the nation near to bank- ruptcy; there has been no excuse offered for the proven political use of relief moneys; no adequate explanation has been given as to what has been obtained for ap- proximately six billions appro- priated for defense purposes, prior to the President's recent emergency messages. The report emphasizes the im- portance of social studies; not ;just the chronological account of remote happenings, but accept- ance of the obligation of teach- .ers to find “some way of pre- paring young people for citizen- ship, for intelligent social aitti- tudes, and for effective participa- tion in community life. . .if social chaos is to be avoided”. The per- sonal problems of the pupil in physical and mental health and of family life are cited as defin- ite responsibilities of the secon- dary schooL Startling recommendations are given regarding some of the con- ventional subjects. including English, mathematics, foreign languages, history and the nat- ural sciences. A demand is made | the curtailment of the ordinary expenses of government to help defray the extraordinary appro- Priations now required for arma- ments. There is, in short, no reason for the people to believe that the New Deal has learned anything jfrom its mistakes, or that it in- tends to correct them. There is only the insatiable am- bition of one man to be continued in Office, cost the American peo- ple what it may, in dollars, lives or liberties. Freyberg announce the birth of a girl at the Flagler Hospital in St. Augus- tine yesterday. The proud father is the son of Mrs. L. H. Todd of this city. NEW CITY TO BE CONSTRUCTED (Continued from Page One) to this construction will require 70,889 tons or stone or more than 1,000 carloads. An additional six miles of wa- ter-proof macadam road will be constructed within the camp and this will be twenty feet in width. To House Guardsmen The facilities described will be necessary in the development of the 31st and 32nd National Guard Division, from about 16,000 men to approximately 40 000 men. These guard units. Senator Pepper said, are expected to be for unifying experiences in the various fields requiring “coopera- ‘tive planning among the several teachers in the secondary school”. The ninth grade is called “more vicious than any other” and “it would be difficult to devise a more uninviting year’s study for adolescents”. In its - concluding section the report places respon- ibility on the individual school that “unless centers of little class-rooms become vigorous experimentation, iwill be accomplished”.
