A review of five of the con- testants, giving their sponsors, follows: Elsie Hartman, a sweet little light-brunette, 16 years old and Possessing a well-formed body,| will be sponsored by Aronovitz Department Store. Representing Holtsberg’s store is likeable Anita Lones, a me- dium blonde beauty, who offers quite a bit of competition. Lovely Thelma Carey, the brown-haired hazel-eyed beauty of Catholic Lane, who is said to have the smile of Joan Crawford and the figure of a Hedy Lamar, was selected by Joe Pearlman to represent Pearlman, Inc., in the contest. Pearlman, who was the Party Honored Miss Clements Miss Martha Clements, of Mi- ami, who is visiting relatives in this city, was entertained at a winner in 1937 when he spon- sored Dorothy Betancourt, is very optimistic over his 1940 se- lection. Appelrouth picked the light- brown haired blonde of Grinnell street, in the person of Gloria Suarez. Gloria is probably the shortest of the contestants but she has a figure that will make the judges “scratch their heads” more than once. Sponsoring that well-shaped cutie, little Dalia Mira, of Simon- ton street, is Fay’s dry goods store. Friends of Delia compare her with Lupe Veliz. How any one of the judges will be able to vote against any of these girls is beyond those who know the contestants well. A tough job is in store for the of- ficials—but they are capable and the one selected will be without favor or partiality. Complete list of judges will be announced later this week. U. S.
