NEW YORK, Aug. 28.—New Roy Hamlin. manager of the Key West Conchs, has anfounced that he intends to construct leckers and showers for his pleyers in the cotner Emma and Southard streets. The garage, 18 by 26 feet, modations for all the players. Hamlin has not definitely decided on fhe number of showers he will install. At first he contemplated con- structing six individual com- partments but now believes three larger ones will serve the purpose and reduce ex- penses. On the north side of the garage. lockers will be built, with the showers on the op- Posite side. A platform will be placed approximately in the center of the building. as the floor slopes in that direc- ~ tion, affording a runway for the water accumulating from use of the showers. Manager Hamlin expects to have everything in readiness within the next two weeks. Piping fresh water to the garage, has been started and partitions for the showers are on hand. The nearness to Navy Field, where league games will be played, makes the location of the club- house an ideal one. IFS SILI SS SS MEETING NEXT WEEK WILL ELECT OFFICIALS AND AP- PROVE SCHEDULE OF CON- TESTS Six teams signified their in- tention of entering a_ baseball league of the city at a meeting held last night at Fire Station No. 1 in the City Hall building. Fire Chief Harry Baker acted as temporary chairman, pending election of officials. Clubs and their representatives at the meeting were: Key West! + Conchs, Manager Roy Hamlin; U. S. Marines, C. F. Spakes; Tro- jans, Juani Navarro; U. S. Army, | Pirkle; Pirates, Pedro Aguilar, and U. S. S. Pandora. Army club has not yet lected players but wished it to be known that a team par- ticipate in the league. Pandora is out on sea duty at present and will return in the near future. A schedule, comprising all the clubs except the Soldier nine, will be drawn up and submitted at the meeting to be held Tues- day of next week at the same time and place. Election of of- ficials will also come up before the session. It was decided that games will be of nine-inning duration and that the opening contests of doubleheaders each Sunday will get under way at 1:30 p. m., ter- minating at 4:00 o'clock. In case the opener results in a tie, an ex- tra inning will be played. If the score remains knotted, the game will have to end to make way for the nightcap. Civilian teams will be allowed 18 players. Yankees engaged in a 10-in- ning affair with the Chicago White Sox, finally winning 5-4. After Red Rolfe had doubled and was sacrificed to third, Keller and Selkirk were inten- tionally walked to fill the bases in the tenth frame. Chisox yanked Rigney and sent in Smith. Joe DiMaggio, next man up, struck out. Then Babe Dahl- gren stepped in the batter’s box and got hold of one of Smith’s slants to send it sailing into short right for a safe blow, scoring the paying run. Manager Dykes of the Sox was ordered from the field for pro- testing too violently on a called fourth ball. Rolfe poled a four- 'bagger in the fifth. With the tying and winning run on base, Clyde Shoun toed the slab for the St. Louis Car- dinals.and quelled a Boston Bees uprising in the eighth. Martin Marion's initial home run of his major league career, in the fourth, proved the margin of vic- | tory for the Redbirds. Annexing his 17th win of the season and his fifth"in 13 games, Claude Passeau limited the New York Giants to seven hits as his Chicago Cubs romped home with the bacon, 3 to 1, mainly due to a two-run blast in the fifth inning. Bonura hit three safeties for the Bruins, sending in the deciding marker in the fifth. Results of the games: AMERICAN LEAGUE At New York R.
