Coming from be- hind twice, the Redbirds counted with a pair of markers in the eighth inning to annex the after- piece. The double victory shoved the Cardinals into fourth place. Whit Wyatt and Luke Hamlin limited the Dodgers to seven safeties for the Bees in each game of the doubleheader -and there lies the tale of the Brooklyn boys’ twin defeat. Scores were 7-2 and 3-1. Wyatt hung up his 13th win in the opener. New York Giants fell victims to the Philadelphia Phillies in both contests of a twin bill, 6-3 and 8-6. A three-run blast in the seventh inning of the nightcap put the fratas on ice for the Phils. Sly Johnson’s relief hurl- ing saved the day for Kirby Higbe in the opener. While the Detroit Tigers were losing to the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians played a 2-2 tie game with the St. Louis Browns and increased their lead to 3% games in the American League. Tribe had a lead of 2-1 going into the ninth when the Brownies tied it all up. -The lowly St. Louis boys shoved over four runs in their half of the tenth but rain began to fall in torrents and the score reverted back to the ninth. Second game ‘was postponed. Chisox made a clean-sweep of the three-game series with the Tigers, winning the third contest yesterday, 7-5.
