Brooklyn kept its slim lead in the senior circuit with a shutout victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, 6 to 0. It was the fourth straight win for the Dodgers, en- gineered chiefly by Whitlow Wyatt's four-hit pitching and timely hitting by lead-off _bat- ters. Chicago Cubs came back from a poor road trip to open a new; home stand against the St. Louis Cardinals, and celebrated the day with a 7 to 1 victory. Claude Passeau held the Cards to seven safeties. Boston Bees finally won a game against their nemesis team, the New York Giants. Behind four-hit pitching by Bill Posedel, the Bees slammed out 13 hits and took the game, 7 to 1. In the American League, only two contests were played. Chi- cago White Sox defeated the St. Louis Browns and moved into fourth place as the Washington Senators lost to the New York Yankees. Veteran Ted Lyons allowed the Brownics nine hits but kept them well scattered. He aided his teammates in their 7 to 5 victory by knocking out three safeties. Yankees blanked the Senators, 5 to 0. Spud Chandler pitched four-hit ball. Joe DiMaggio and Charley Keller poled four-bag- gers, the latter’s blow coming with two men on base in the eighth inning.
