Some weeks ago the Steel Con- struction Company of Birming- ham, Ala., was awarded a $% 200 contract for the fabrication and erection of the steel frame of the huge hangar, which wiil be 372 feet long, 250 feet wide and 50 feet high. The Ivy H. Smith Company of Jacksonville is now engaged on a $283,684 contract for the footings and foundations for the hangar and other structures and for con- struction of the barracks, ¢ ficers’ quarters, sewers, water trie conduits and other structures. Finally, the navy department is sponsoring an $18,300 WPA project for clearing, grading and improving the 60-acre site. The total of these contra and projects is $587,184. If Con- gress approves of a_ bill~ intro- duced by Congressman A. Pat Cannon, Thursday of this week for a naval purchase of the site for $125,000, the total investment in the seaplane base will amount to about $713,000.
