They proposed location of an airport at some | point above the city, and tentatively sug- gested Geigers Key for that purpose. A committee.was appointed and the idea was discussed from every angle. So far | as the public was concerned, for there were no further official announcements, the airport idea seemed to die what is | usually a-‘natural death in Key West. Then the Key West Chamber of Com- merece decided to undergo an operation for the installation of‘a new set of active glands. Among the great unsolved riddles of the world is why better coffee is made from the same material in one country | than in another. Another puzzle is why | does the same kind of coffee taste so dif- | ferently when brewed by different peo- ple in the same community. It seems that} each coffee brewer puts his own per-| sonality in his brew, and the bfewer who! hits most the popular taste makes the best | coffee. A matter of taste, after all! Senator Pepper recently joinéd the | “filibuster” to side-track the Hatch anti- | polities aet. PRODUCTION ADJUSTMENTS There was a time when smart business men thought that the con- dition of the United States could be judged by the production index that tells us the | rate of industrial production in the United States. It is now beginning to appear that production can run ahead of demand, that | piled up inventories can cause unemploy- ment and that it is just as important to have buying power ag it is to have manu- facturing power. i Industry has an easy way to adjust production. All that the plant manager has to do is to shut down. His workers go off the ‘payroll and, very often, upon re- lief. Thus the United States government, through its relief policy, is subsidizing the labor supply of our great industries. Production can be overdone on the farm, just as it is in industry. Unfor- tunately, the farmer cannot shut down as easily. The remedy that is now available to farmers is production control, or crop control. It is a democratic process, not called upon until two-thirds of the pro- ducers vote for it. Intelligent farmers, with no side lines to sell, realize that there must be co- operative control of crop production if farm products are to be sold at fair prices. NO USE TO ARGUE The arguments that will result from the political campaigns this year will be as | varied as the imaginations of men. You can find a group, in one place, quite sure that-something will happen and, after moving a little space, you will find another group just as certain that it won’t. There is no way to settle the issue by senseless reiteration of your opinion. When the voters go to the polls and the ballots afte counted the result will be cer- tain and beyond argument. Tn the meantime, it might be a good idea for the average American citizen to attend to his: own business and make some progress in his Own behalf. | so-called | | ville. | | % .
