C., it was announced in a tele- gram received today by Lieut. Commander T. J. Brady, civil engineer officer at the station. The Southeastern Construction Company was found to be low bidder at $23,287 for the job when bids were opened by Commander Brady at the station administra- tion building last Wednesday. Estimated cost of the work as fixed by naval engineers was $25,000. Under the terms of the con- tract, the Charlotte contracting firm will have one week from the date of receipt of the “notice to proceed” from the navy depart- ment. This is expected to be given within a few days. Com- mander Brady expects the com- pany will start work by March 15, using all the available Key West laborers and mechanics. The job probably will be finished by June 1. The addition will extend from the present dispensary across a plot now occupied in part by ten- nis courts. It will contain a gen- eral ward for 12 patients, six private rooms and offices for the medical, dental and X-ray and other departments under Com- mander R. B. Blackwell, M.C., U.S.N., medical officer at the sta- tion. VISITOR BOATS 600 Record Catch Of Kingfish POUNDS OF JEWFISH eocccccce An excellent day’s catch of the various species of the finny tribe found in these waters is reported by Chris Hoefel, of St. Louis, who went out with Theodore Roberts, local commercial fisher- man, last Friday in the latter's launch. Three jewfish, the combined weight of which totalled over 600 pounds, were boated after short but terrific battles. One of the brownish, big-mouthed monsters was estimated to have weighed 250 pounds. A_ well. full of smaller fish, including yellow- tail, grunts, muttonfish, snapper, sailor’s choice and others, added additional poundage and variety to the catch. A brother-in-law of Mr. Hoefel, H. S. Hudlow, also had a unique experience last week. Joining the Demeritt Brothers in their search for kingfish, the party ran into a large school of the fierce silvery fighters.
