To see isn’t so difficult, but to forsee —that is wisdom, or a good guess. Evidently we have so many things to be thankful for that it will take two days of Thanksgiving. Key West has some imperfections but they cannot eliminate themselves; they ; must be eliminated. An exchange declares that contented citizens are a town’s best asset. But where will you find contented citizens? Prof. O’Bryant Speaks To Lions. Headline in The Citizen. It takes courage to do that, but presumably the Lions were safely in their cages. Vote right. That is done by choosing the right candidate for the right place, and not voting your prejudices and your | emotions. It goes against the grain but it | is the only sensible procedure. | It was always said that wars of the future would be utterly different from | those in the past, but a tremendous and stupendous war was in mind, not the “watchful waiting” kind now going on. A Key West wag who is always cook- ing up something informs this column that he knows positively that twelve candi- dates for the city council will not be elected, but he wouldn’t go so far.as to | name them. ; Turning over to. VOTE TOMORROW AND VOTE RIGHT! CONSIDER THE PUBLIC Through the press, by posters in rail- road stations, over the radio and on the floor of our legislatures we have been | more or less bombarded with propaganda for this or that form of transportation. One group asks for a square dea] and a_ fair | field. Another request is for regulation of transportation or for taxes or laws which | will place all forms of transportation on an equal basis. é One of the things which has ‘singularly missing from a great deal this propaganda has been the interest of been mands for special consideration by ‘trans- portation interests there have been few manded for the general public. Everyone is interested in transporta- tion. Every time you pay out a dollar for merchandise or material a considerable | percentage goes to pay the cost of trans- portation—a cost that is hidden in the | purchasing price. If new methods of | transportation come along which will per- mit transportation costs to be cut, it- will mean that prices will go down and the cost of living will be reduced. Certainly the public is entitled to this saving if it can be accomplished. An attempt should be made to meet transportation problems by having them adjusted to the needs of society rather than trying to have society legislated to | meet the needs of any individual form. of transportation. Competition is not par- ticularly weleome by some of us. ‘But, it is the only insurance of a square deal to, Let competition in the trans- portation field continue.
