The most glorious of all Ameri- can birds, the Great White Heron, breeds nowhere but on the Flor- ida Keys. It has been wantonly killed off to such an extent that now the known numbers left are so few that a hurricane such as that of 1935 would certainly wipe them out entirely, making them extinct for all time, like the Wild Pigeon. Just this’ one tragic ex- ample gives an idea of the great work Mr. Moore has started among the people in Key West, it has been shown. He told the gathering that “this Fall there will be organized a local chapter of the Audubon Society to carry forward this work which is not only humane, but which will add immeasurably to the beauty of:Key West in its’ lovely: tropical ‘setting; — with — its flowering gardens”. Mr. Moore’s talk was iflustrat- ed with a collection of pictures loaned for exhibition by the Audubon Society of New York, An oil painting of the Great White Heron, by Peterson, and some fine examples of Audubon Prints in full color make up the exhibition, which will be on view at the Art Center until August 20.
