Where the owners of cars will park them in the World of Tomorrow does not bother the present generation; it wants to know where to park the old bus TODAY. —Key West Citizen. And what the World of Tomorrow is worrying about is whether it:will*have any cars to park.—Sanford Herald. - WPA workers, according to a late rul- ~ jing, will be. dismissed after a service of 18 months. That gives every person om relief sufficient time to adjust himself and se- cure other employment. The very word “relief” implies temporality, a limitation of time.—Key West Citizen. With some of them it is a career.—Sanford Herald. Five-year-old Helen Stam has been returned to the United States from China where her parents, American missionaries, were executed by Chinese bandits. She, too, would have met death by the sword had riot a nameless Chinese forfeited his life that little Helen’s might be spared. Sve’ av heroic act should be rewarded by renéwed help to the hapless Chinese in the struggle to maintain their national freedom. Automobile hornblowing is a menace to-safety and health, and the outmoded practice causes aute accidents and upsets nerves. Key West, unfortunately, re- mains a vietim of the habit formed in the early years of motor traffic when there were few motor cars. Often mistakingly identified with safe driving, it has been proven that it is just the contrary. In where hornblowing has been al- traffic mishaps have de- clined appreciably. Most cities in the United States have ordinarices against un- ry horn blowing, which is now gen- ‘considered a nuisance that should WHY A YACHT BASIN? Every time the proposal to create a ‘yacht basin at Garrison Bight is: brought up a few of our short-sighted and long- _winded citizens set up a howl of anguish. the same effect as tossing a cat on a dog’s back. Now that the yacht basin plan - ap- pears to be heading toward consummation / the number of howls per square mile is in- creasing. Why should money be spent for a yacht basin for the use of the idle rich? While other people struggle to make a liv. “ing, why should the city spend money fo: a yacht basin? The very idea! Now that the question has been {brought up we might advance a few of these howls. Bight is a navigable body of water. Con- struetion of a new entrance to the bight and deepening of the water for a yacht _ basin does not remove the bight from pub- lic use. In short, every boatman would be permitted to anchor or tie up there. The fishing boats and small craft of all descrip- tions. Regarding the pleasure boat, the yacht, Key West must eventually make ‘some provision for anchorage and docking | of such eraft if it expects to continue as a vacation and resort center. Sooner or later the submarine base now used as a yacht | basin will be closed to all except naval vessels. Where will visiting yachts find shelter then? The plan is to improve Garrison Bight for that purpose. Much of the cost will b provided by WPA. The work will require fine improvement and one that. will at- tract large numbers of yachts to Key West ; and provide our fishermen with shelter for their boats. owners of them usually are pretty well- to-do., They spend liberally and are large buyers of food, ice, gasoline and oil and other supplies and materials. They em- guides. Their business increases the gen- eral volume of trade, hence affords many others of our citizens employment. If 200 to 500 yachts are tied up here every sea- son the city would enjoy a greater pros- perity than it does now. That’s why a yacht basin is important. Key West needs trade of all kinds. Every- |; thing that can be done to attract trade should be done. The yachtsman should be encouraged to come here. Nothing should be done to discourage him coming here. The Citizen believes that next to beaches, a yacht basin is one of the most important resort improvements needed by the city. DO YOU WANT MORE PROFITS? Why should a merchant in Key West advertise? The answer is, “To sell more goods.” This will reduce unit costs and either make larger profits or enable the concern to reduce prices to attract larger sales. vertise? Well, that depends. We-would nat- urally suggest that an advertiser try vari- ous methods to determine which produce the best results The use of this newspaper as an advertising medium by many adver- tisers over a long period should suggest that it pays them. However, if you have any objections to spending money for the purpose of mak- ing more money, there is no use to adver- tise. Certainly, unless you intend to go at the thing in a business-like manner there is no use to expect results, Why not let us talk to you about a sensible advertising pro- gram for your business?
