Pooling the relatively gmall budgets ‘of the road commission, the county ¢qm- mission, the hotel and transportation in- terests and others would make a sizeable | total for advertising and publicity. Such a program at one time would publicize the scenic highway to Key West, ‘the hotel and | transportation facilities and the alluring beauties of the city of Key West. It seems like a saund proposal. It would un- doubtedly mean a greater flow of tourist traffic and vacationists across‘the keys ‘to Key West. It would help every interest in |; the pool, enliven business here the year. around and reduce the unemployment load. There is just.one suggestion The Citi- | zen would like to add in this connection: The publicity under such a program should be directed and sent out from Key West. Miami does not employ a Palm Beach | publicity agency to publicize Miami. Key | West should not employ a Miami pub- | licity agency to publicize Key West. "We have men in Key West capable of handling such a program. Let them be engaged :to send out publicity matter from Key West, about Key West, for Key West. The whole proposal is presented to | our: public and civic officials for their con- sideration. « The Citizen hopes they will begin doing something to stimulate busi- ness and thus provide a greater volume of employment for our people. A properly organized publicity program seems te be in order. _ TWELVE PROMINENT WOMEN In addition to their mania for joining associations, their worship of “the largest” | anything, their adoration of champions.and their craving to be “tops,” the American people demand lists of “the best” and the | “most.outstanding.” Illustrative of one of these tendencies js.a group of metropolitan women who se- lected the twelve “outstanding women of the past fifty years.” While we do not consider ourselves qualified to argue over the women selected, we reserve.our judg- ment and call ‘attention to the women se- lected for another reason. ‘ The women selected include: Eleanor Roosevelt, Ida M. Tarbell, Florence Sabin, Carrie Chapman Catt, Mary Ritter Beard, S.
