Faithful Tax Payers To Be Remembered In Moratorium Bill In State Legislature Would Become From Payment For Two- Exempt} Year Period; Hodges In-' troduces Measure (Special te The Citizen) TALLAHASSEE, May 11.—Tie plow horses behind Florida’s fis- cal structure may at last come in- to their reward if a bill intro- duced in the State Senate today by Senator Wm. C. Hodges be-| come a law. Under this bill the men and women of Florida who have conscientiously paid their | taxes year after year, thus mak- ing it possible for schools to op- | erate, pensions to be paid and! government to function will be} relieved of that burden for at! least two years while those who} have been avoiding taxes through | the operations of the Murphy, | Futch and other Acts will be re- | quired to take up the burden and} pay the bill for the next bien- nium. 1 In short, Senator Hodges’ bill! provides a tax moratorium for, two years for the owners of all} property on which the taxes have | been paid in full without adjust- | ment, rebates or discounts for the , past five years. COIS LSS STM: |JEWFISH LANDED The bill prohibits the assessor | from assessing the commissioners | from levying millage or the col- leetors from collecting wherever ! the property comes under terms of the moratorium. “Florida’s ‘forgotten men’ are entitled to be remembered before it is too late”, Senator Hodges! stated in announcing the _intro-| duction of his bill. “For ten years our Legislators have bene gather- ang in session and as_ regularly | yielding to the pressure of those | who dislike and decline to pay | taxes while the men and women making their payments promptly and religiously have just as_re- ligiously been forgotten in the Legislature who owe them most. PATROLMAN ON HIGHWAY SENDS IN’RESIGNATION COUNTY BOARD LAST EVE- NING AT FOOT OF MAIN STREET YESTERDAY Catching of jewfish in Key West waters, especially in the channels and from the docks along the waterfront, is a common daily occurrence, but when it comes to landing them right at the foot of Duval street, the main thor- oughfare of the city, that’s something different and ra- ther unusual, but it happen- ed late yesterday afternoon. Aurelio Lastra, employe of the local post office, was the amateur angler carrying off the honors by landing a mon- ster jewfish weighing around 300 pounds, ably assisted by Ernest Salazar and many oth- ers who came to his assist- ance in lifting the specimen from the water to the abut- ment. | On hearing of the catch, there were a large number of persons who made their way to the scene, and viewed the monster after he was secure- ly fastened with a rope and placed back in ithe water along the abutment where Commissioner T.
