There was quite a large representation of parents present. The program consisted of a welcome by three little First Grade girls. Two selections by the Rhythm Band, which were creditably rendered and three selections by the — orchestra, which although organized just four months ago and composed of beginning players, showed re- markable talent on the part of the pupils and good instruction on the part of the music teacher, Mrs. Norma Dopp. Announcement Of Engagement Mr. and Mrs. John R. Delaney, | of 2906 Ola Avenue, Tampa, Fla., have announced ‘the, engagement of their daughter, Miss Edenia C. Delaney to Carl B. Terry, son of Frank L. Terry. Miss Delaney, formerly af Key | West, received her early educa- tion in this city, and was gradu- ated from Hillsborough High and Brewster Vocational Schools. She received her A.B. degree from the University of Tampa, and is a member of the Sigma Theta! Phi sorority. For the past three years, Miss Delaney 's been on the faculty of the University of Tampa, as! the assistant instructor in Span- | ish. Mr. Terty is a native of Tampa and was graduated from the Plant City High School. He is local distributor for a well-known company. Floor Show For Highway Dance In a phone call last night from Miami, President Joe Montecino, of the Key West-Dade Club,, which is sponsoring the Jamboree at the Civic Center in Miami Fri- day night in celebration of the of the first opening of| ‘the Overseas Highway, approved the all-star floor show arranged by Mrs. Eva Warner for the! dance. | The floor show, which is large- ly taken from the Night In Ha- vana group, consists of a Mexican Hat Dance, Exotic Bolero, Inter- national Ballet, Ferdinand the Bull, Argentine Tango, Allegoric- al number in which Cuba flirts with Uncle Sam, Rhumba, Tap Dance and Rhumba Fiesta. The performers will be leaving tomorrow and later this week and: will be at a rehearsal at the Civic Center Thursday afternoon at 5 p. m. Those who have not se-; cured transportation as yet may do so by contacting’ Mrs. Warner, Mrs. Bernice Brantley, original Miss Key West of the celebration, will present the cup to the Miss Key West chosen at the dance. Tavernier Couple Married Here Yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the office of County Judge Raymond R. Lord, Lanny Tubbs and Miss Lavel Ellen, both! of Tavernier, were made man and wife, Judge Lord officiating. The ceremony was witnessed by Miss Louisa Delaney and E. H. Regular Wednesday night price will be in effect. | 12th Annual Conch Day Observed | Twelfth Annual Conch Day ex-| ercises were observed Friday at the High School with the junior class the usual butts of the senior class, which this year boasts 65, the largest in the history of the school. The Day started with the sen- iors marching in a body into the auditorium singing, “Hail, Hail”. Music was furnished by Hector Barroso, Percy Roberts and John Robinson. Six juniors were im- mediately brought up on_ the stage and mild “hazing” admin- istered. The precious Conch shell, which annually is given by the senior class to the junior class that it may carry on the school/| \waditions was given by President Rosemary Kelly of the junior, class. Senior class President Har- ry Knight, more seriously, ad-) \dressed the gathering and told of the significance of Conch Day. A motorcade was then formed and proceeded to Boca Chica | fishing, boating and swimming was enjoyed. Mrs. Mitchell White chaperoned the picnic. Mrs. Lorine Thompson is the class sponsor.
