The orders are national in scope, the Jacksonville office re- | ceiving instructions from Col. M. C. Harrington, national director. ' The two exceptions which are carried in the order are (1) that men retiring from W.P.A. rolls previous to June of 1938 will be allowed back and (2) illness or injuries forcing retirement at! any time. However, in this lat- ter, medical certification of the injury is required. Mr. Gandolfo wishes to em- phasize in connection with the or- ders that the 200 men who were transferred from the Army ‘proj- ect recently when it ran out of, funds to local projects in labor- #8 status. should t withdraw from the current folls or there) will be no possibility of placing them back on the, present rolls. For the present all are advised to hold their present positions. Discussing the sewer project, which seems to face a certain shutdown in the next two months, Mr. Gandolfo said that the 442, men involved could probably be shifted around to other local projects, but that it would mean that those projects would run out that much faster with the new load. At present there is no possibil- ity of the entire relief load of 1,100 workers being absorbed in- to private employment in Key West, Mr. Gandlofo said. It is extremely doubtful if they could be employed year round in a tcurist resort, he pointing out that other tourist re- sorts close down partly,.during the summer.
