Washington Senators also won in the ninth inning, edging out Cleveland Indians, 4 to 3, despite the fact Bob Feller held the Nats to four safeties. In a pitehers’ duel, Caster, of Philadelphia Athletics, bested Knott and Rigney. Each team se- cured only six safeties. Final score: Philadelphia, 5; Chieago, 2. Beginning at long heme stand against western clubs, Boston Red Sox won and lost with Detroit Tigers. The Sox took the opener, 7 to 4, and dropped the nightcap, 9 to 5. Pittsburgh Pirates had won 13 straight games and were trying for their 14th on July 13th. But the jinxes were too much.
