A SERIOUS SITUATION If all reports trickling in from the THE KEY WEST CITIZEN | mainland proye even 75 per cent correct, the greatest crowd that ever invaded Key West will come here for the various events of the fiesta Saturday, Sunday and Mon- day. Guesses as to the number of persons who will come here vary all the way from 1,500 to 5,000, with some believing it will | be even greater than that. For the sake of argument, let’s assume 1,500 persons will appear. The housing committee of the Overseas Highway Cele- bration group estimates that approximate- ly 800 rooms will be available. With two persons to a room our hotels and regular rooming houses probably would be able to | handle 1,500 persons without much diffi- | culty. But assume that more than 1,500 per- sons, say approximately 2,500, come down What then? Of course many hundreds of persons will be the house guests of residents who never think of renting their spare bedrooms.
