Now, Ashpenaz had grown exceedingly fond of Daniel and the other three boys since SPECIAL SERMONS AT FIRST BAPTIST i In the Sunday morning service: at 11 o'clock in the First Baptist | coven ceccsccacccccccccccccccocccococcccecoececes: | Sunday School Lesson they had been under his charge, but to him the king’s orders were absolute and must be obeyed. Daniel was persistent, however, asking for a ten days’ trial. If he and his companions were not in better health at the end of that that striveth\in the gamesiyq@eried than ,the other boys who exerciseth self-controlin _adlj,,,ate,the king’s dainties, then they _would agree to do everything that pike SAshpenaz commanded. The prince _ ofthe eunnchs agreed to the trial. “At the end of the ten days, their countenances appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youth that. did eat of the king’s dainties.” So attractive were they and in such good form at the end of the three years’ training period, that they found favor in the sigh of King Nebu- chadnezzar and were selected to serve the king. While this passage has little ref- erence to alcoholic beverages in the modern sense of the term, it is a story of the devotion and heroism of four young men which should prove an encouragement to men and women today to stand firm and true when the easier course would be to “follow the crowd.” There is little in this world more to be desired than a strong, healthy body and a clear, quick mind: Daniel was probably taught by-tis Jewish parents that rich foods, and wine would not; help build a strong body and equally strong mind. This equally true today. The passage written by Paul i the Corinthian Christians also emphasizes this fact. Likening! the game of life to an athletic race, he reminds the Corinthians, and us,. that “every man that striveth for the mastery of tem- erate in all things.” That th true is borne out by the metho ued by athletic trainers. Every boy and girl, man or woman has heard of the restrictions and pri- vations to which an athlete must submit if he would “make the team” or “win the game.” And, as Paul points out, they willingly acquiesce in this training in or- der that they may “obtain a cor- ruptible crown.” And yet there are so many men and women to- day, who are not willing to de- prive themselves of any of the so- called pleasures of the world in order that they may obtain a crown which is “incorruptible.” Let us profit from the truths learned from the story of Daniel and the advice given by Paul. the words of our Golden ‘Text; “Every man that striveth"in the games exerciseth self-control in all things.” ‘SPECIAL CHURCH MEETING, TO BE HELD TUESDAY. rs PAGE THREE LEGALS MANY FRENCH AUTO CABS OF eae Bi EFORE THE f Thus We SUNBEAM BOASTS OF BEING as ONE OF THE EARLIEST WOODED OPEN OR CLOSED onive|— 1909 WERE DRIVEN FROM the followi the County . 11, Book prded in orig tam, property described thérein will be sold, to the h ‘ertifieate 2} of July n my for a tax : . certificate em- following deseribed Sounty of Monroe, THIS MOTORING PLEASURE ANO BEAUTY) TQ THE OL0 GAS BUGGY, BUT STHE <—— AND BEAUTY ARE BUILT VATS FORAYS STANDARD con 4 tenod.
