The occasion was designated “Young People’s Night,” and the theme of the evening address by Fred T. Barnett was “A Young Man’s Fatal Mistake—The Story of the Rich Young Ruler.” The speaker showed that . the rich ruler had youth, position, education, earnestness, humility, courage, conformity to the com- mandments, and a deep interest in spiritual things, but that “with all his attractive qualitie; he lov- ed|his cash more than he loved ikis character, he loved. his gold more than he loved his God,” and that, because of his unwillingness to consecrate his possessions to the service of God’s poor and the work of Christ’s Kingdom, and become :a personal. apostle of Jesus, he forfeited happiness and success in this life, as well as the prize of eternal life. Covetousness was declared by the speaker to be the great Ameri- can sin, and the unwillingness of American men to dedicate their property and to set aside a def- inite proportion of their income for the world purposes of Jesus Christ were shown to be the bar- riers which separated thousands from a life of peace with God and of unselfish service for hu- manity- Personal testimonies given at last night’s service would indi- cate a deepening of the spiritual of the Miami District of the Methodist church, will be the guest speaker at Fleming Street (Uptown) church Sunday eve- ning at the regular worship serv- ice, announces Rev.
