AMERICA’S LEGION This community, like every other, has its contingent of American Legionnaires. | Nearly a score of years ago they returned i triumphant from the Great War and be- | came citizens to whom we _ point with | pride. They voted to ask Congress | for an investigation and deportation of those alien “ism” groups and they re- affirmed their faith in the Bill of Rights: as a living document designed for the pro-! tection of the humblest citizen. { This community is fortunate to have! among its citizens a number of these true Americans—the Legionnaires. CONVERSATION TOPICS Investigators classified 500 conversa- tions overheard in public places to find out just what men and women talk about, in Cleveland and New York. They found that the subjects varied little in the two cities. Men’s conversations were 48 per cent | ‘about business, 15 per cent about sports and amusements, 12 per cent about other men, these being the most frequent topi Conversations of women were most frequently about men, this topic showing great variation in the two cities, 22 per cent in New York. Clothes were the sub- | ject of 20 per cent and other women 15) per cent. { In Mixed company, men talked most to women about amusements, next of business and money. Women conversed with men about themselves and other women, It is likely that at times when some matter of unusual interest is up for discus- sion, such as the Lindbergh case, King Ed- ward’s romance, or something of the sort, both men and women talk about what is uppermost in the public mind. Otherwise, the topics named by the investigators are probably most discussed. At any rate their findings are inter- esting. What do you talk about?
