MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, */LONG-AWAITED THROUGH Bobby Shultz— The best news of the day that Bobby Shuitz is up to his old tricks again. he has switch- ed over to the Giants. The fol- lowing is a brief by’s activities during the season. He, started out by ~pick- ing the Cardinals and Detroit Ti-, pen-! nants and play in the ‘world’s se-|Devils will, be played tonight at the; gers to win the respective ries. The hero of this series will be some. one that we have not read or wrote much about. Yankee Outfield— The Murderers’ Row consistsrof DiMaggio, who both lefgues in homers; Selkir&, who hit eight safely in the “last series, including two home runs; Tom Henrich, sensational young- ster; Jake Powell - and Mpyril Hoag. That combination will give the Giants lots of head- aches. outfield 4 Giant Outfield— The National Leaguers _ will have Moore, who is a great hitter im the rinches; Ripp'e, another hard hitter «nd a fast man and clean-up batter for the Terrymen; Chiozza, who has been playing a great game in the field; Wally Berger. who hits them, out of the Jot when he hits, and Hank Lie- ber, who made 13 put- outs and one assist in the last series. This and That— St. Louis Cardinals reemploy Frankie Frisch for the year 1938. -This leaves the Phillies, Reds and Pirates to name a manager in the Nationa) League, . .Ac- cording to rumors the Phils’ man- Seer will go to the Reds’ and the Pirates’ pilot will be let out. . In 2 few days fans wil know who gets these jobs. . .In the Ameri- can League, the Indians, Nats and Browns are scheduled to change managers for 1938. . - O’Neil has been siated to leave for some time but has not been officially announced, . .Bottomley wfl be relieved of hig duties at St. Louis and Bucky Harris is scheduled to leave the Senators. . Joe Allan has but one more victory to tie the American League record of 16 games won in a row and he will be the first pitcher to go through an entire season without a defeat. . .Mc- Carthy of the Yankees was out scouting on the Giants in their last games of the season to see how they are working and to act according’y. . .Lefty Gomez. was the first moundsman in the ma- jors to win 20 games this year, and Hubbell was the first to win 22 games. These two pitchers will probably face each other in the opening contest of the world series. .
