Of course more modern — gas ranges are much better, and, in fact, won many more prizes. But it again, bears out the fact that in actual perform- ance a twenty year old gas range will excel today’s “most modern” range of any other kind. Throughout the South, and outside of locations where gas is available, three prize winning cakes were baked with other fuels—two with oil, and one with wood.
