FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1986. NEW CLUB LOST ITS FIRST GAME SANITARY DEPARTMENT DE- FEATED WHITE SOX BY 5 TO 1 SCORE (By JOVE) Sanitary Department and the newly-organized White Sox play- | ed a good game of diamondball yesterday afternoon. J. Walker held the new club to but one hit and that came in the fina! frame. He struck out 11 batters, The final score of the game was 5 to 1 in favor of the Healthers. M. Arias also pitched a good brand of bell for the losers, al- lowing just four safeties against the hard-hitting Sanitary boys. J. Garcia connected for a dou- ble-—the only extra base hit of the contest, Jimmie Griffin played for the new club and after 10 years of retirement, he proved that he can still “take it.” ..His position was at second 1 made two wonderful fun! Gar- cia. 1 2 FOLLOWING THROUGH (By JOVE) After reading the article ap- pearing in yesterday's issue of The Citizen and signed by Lopez Dia- mondball Team, I am still positive that the club as a whole is not in favor of winning ball games in an unfair manner. There are some boys on the club that I know are, and always will be, fair and square shibet ‘I a'so believe that the umpire gave his decisions to the best of his knowledge, but there are hun- dreds of fans just like me, who believe that he made some mis- takes. It was stated in the article that in Miami they gave the local boys worse decisions than those given the Miamians here. Some of the players who went on the trip claim they were given square and fair decisions in their games up there, and if they did get bad decisions, | that does not mean that two wrongs make a right. 4 As far as the sports writer giv- ing his opinion on any play or de- cision that may arise on the ball field, it is not only a part of his job, but it is the duty of every fan who likes fair and square play, to pass their opinions, I am only answering the one that wrote the article, whoever he may be, for I know that the ma- jovity of the! fidpez(' players are and will always be in favor of clean and “fair play.” And as long as I write about sports in Key West, I will be in favor of fair play as are the ma- jotity of the players'and fans of this city. Before the issue is forgotten, I would like to congratulate the following fans for their choice of the victorious team in the World Series when they picked the Yan- kees to win: A. Baeza, Bobby Shultz, Henry Mayg, Gene Roberts, William Rus- sell, Jack Williams, Percy Curry, Jesus Carmona and Tomas Ma- chin, The following Giant fans have my sympathy: Frank Stickney, Charles Men- doza, Lennie Grillon, Gabriel Ca- banas, By JOVE, Big Phillip, Ar- thur Pastorini Manuel Varela, S: Ormond Cordova, Alfred Machin and a score of others, Better luck next year. WHITE SOX MEET ADMINISTRATION (By JOVE) The last two clubs of the Social League standing will play this aft- ernoon. The loser will drop inte the cellar. The White Sox will use B. Lowe in the box and M. Arias will catch. For Administration, the great speed-ball pitcher, Gene Roberts, will be on the mound and Soldano will catch. This game will prove to be thrill- ing from statz to finish. | State of | HOW THEY STAND | (By JOVE) SOCIAL (Diamondball) LEAGUE {| Club— W. L. Pet. , Coca-Cola kos dO !
