PAGE FOUR MISS HOOPER OF SOCIAL WELFARE BOARD, LEAVES ‘REPRESENTATIVE OF ORGAN- IZATION GAVE TALK AT CLINIC COVERING TIVITIES ITS AC- Miss Grace Hooper, representa- tive of the State Board of Social Welfare, who had been in Key West for the past week, left by plane Thursday afternoon. Miss Hooper was pleased by the way with which the work in the local office of the State Board of So- cial Welfare is being carried on and with the apparent ease with which the FERA was liquidated in so far vices of the Board of Social Welfare are concerned. On Tuesday afternoon at the Clinic, Miss Hooper spoke to mem- bers of the local citizen: eemmittee, several s ‘Key West, and the local staff of the State Board of Social Wel- fare. At that ti she gave a resume of the activities of the Board of Social Welfare through- out the state. She stated that it is necessary to demonstrate -the benefits of this organization to the state and to local communi so that during the next session of the legislature money will be ap- propriated for its continuance. Miss Hooper spoke briefly re- garding the services the Board of Social Welfare is ren- dering the State of Florida. These include administering of any of the federal funds available under the Socia! Security Act, such as Old‘Age Pensions, Pensions for the Blind, Aid to Dependent Chil- dren, and Rural Child Welfare Service, The Board also lends its serv- ices in cooperation with other-fed- eral activities such as certif ing workers to WPA, distributing commodities to eli- gible applicants, The State Board also render aid to the State Institutions in meking inv ations and giving parole supervision to wards of the State Mental Hospital at Chatta- hochee. the Boys’ Reform School at Marianna, and the Girls’ Re- form Schoo! at Ocala. The Welfare Board also makes out of town inquiries for agencies and counties in Florida and for agencies outside the state of Flor- ida. One of the most important. services, however, is the state Board’s cooneration with local re- lief authorities on the reauest of local authorities. This includes investigation of relief applications for county comn issioners, and ad- ministering county and municipal relief funds the county or citv reauests it. Other services also inelude promoting community ac- tivities that will decrease depen- denev and delinquency. and st handicapped neople. in so far a nossible. to become self-support- ine members of society. SHEPHERD, LOCAL REP- RESENTATIVE, POINTS OUT ITS MANY ADVANTAGES IN OPERATION In the continued of Southe: sene ope! development Florida, the Kero-f ed Electrolux Refrig- erator has become an important adjunct, A. F. Shepherd, local representative, points out. Owing to the fact that so many homes are located beyond the power lines where automatic refrigeration has been heretofore unevailable, the Electrolux has proven itself to be a_ veritable boom, he states. “Strange to relate, Electrolux is atso receviing a wonderful ac- ceptance in districts where power is available. Due to its lack of machinery, quiet operation ‘and the fact that performance is not disturbed by wind, storm or oth- er climatical disturbances,” says Mr. Shepherd. W. S. Wagstaff, president of the Gas Appliance, Inc., distribu- tors for Southeast Florida of Electrolux Refrigerators, will be in Key West today with a demon- strator-truck to assist Mr. Shep- herd in showing the Electrolux to Key Westers. His visit represents an opportunity for local people to learn fully about the Electro- lux without obligation.
