STAMP DIVISION SPANISH MUSEUM OPENS THURSDAY FRAMES WILL BE DISPLAYED TEMPORARILY IN NAVY AD- MINISTRATION BUILDING IN GOVERNMENT YARD The Stamp Division of the Spanish Main Museum of Key West will be formally op:ned on January 23, acecrding to Commo- dore Matho Fridericus von Mietk- Liuba, H. D. W., executive direc- tor of the museum. The opening of the museum will be combined with the Opening Exercises of the International Stamp and Coin Exposition. Tem- porarily the frames will be dis- played in the Navy Adminisra- tion Building, through the cour- tesy of Lieutenant William Klaus, U.-S. N. The Commodore announced that a large number of local peo- ple have donated generously to the Stamp Division. The next division to be added will be an Oceanographic Division. The museum frames are not arranged in strict harmony with philatelic principles, but from the standpoint of interest. Later on, the executive director states. the Stamp Division may be built up in a scientific manner. In the beginning it is deemed more ex- pedient to arrange the material in a manner that will intrigue and hold the public’s interest. Among the many frames ready for the opening of the museum are frames containing stamps from Nyassa; Belgian Congo with scenes depicting industries; a beautiful set from Lichtenstein; emperors, kings and other crown- ed heads on stamps; German in- flation stamps showing the via delorosa of a nation in her dark- est hour; Ukranian stamps and some from Czechoslovakia; air- mail stamps of various types, and others. Of very especial interest to local people, it is expected, will be a frame showing ships on stamps, and several frames with women on stamps have an almost universal appeal. Anyone who wishes to donate material of any kind to the Span- ish Museum, is invited to cont municate with the Commodore at his Air Station Apartment or on Thursday night in the Navy Build- ing. The museum, it is pointed out, is to be community property and is governed by a Board of Di- rectors.
