After the usual vicissi- tudes, which are part of the history of so many pioneer Florida papers, the property fell into the hands of O. K. Cole after the world war and he is still its owner. The Lake Region's recent History is of local interest in Fort Myers because Mr. Cole was here for a time some 20 years ago and still has prop- erty interests in this vicinity. After leaving the Press in 1929 George Hosmer served for a year and a half as editor of the Lake Region. The Eustis paper is the fourth in recent months to celebrate its Golden Anniversary. Be- sides the News-Press the others are the Sewance Democrat at Live Oak and the Plant City Courier, both weeklies. Among dailies the Key West Citi- zen is of about the same vintage and several are | approaching it. The Tampa Tribune and St. Augustine Record are withm 10 years of the goal and the Palatka News has six years to go.
