PAGE FOUR SOCIETY Miss K. Lightbourn Honoree At Shower On Lighthouse Grounds An unusually enjoyable and, largely attended miscellaneous: shower was given yesterday aft- ernoon on the magnificent lawn very beautiful and picturesque|local Firestone dealer, the at the Key West lighthouse grounds, the premises of which make up the home of Mr. and Mrs, William W. Demeritt, who} occupy the cozy and commodious residence which adorns the reser-; vation at the south corner of the acreage on which stands the light- house structure. | The affair was in honor of Miss Kathryn Lightbourn, whose marriage to William W. Demer- itt, Jr.. will be solemnized on the! evening of May 28 at the St.j Paul's Episcopal Church, The festivities comprising afternoon’s entertainment were presided over by Mrs. Alvin}! —Moore, who was assisted in re-| ceiving the guests by her mother,; H Mrs. W. W. Demeritt, with the honoree of the occasion, and her mother, Mrs. Nellie Dorgan, also: in the receiving line. Mrs. Katie Eldridge gave two readings in connection. with the progaam of entertainment, with| a “Jumble Game” pated in by many of those pres- ent, which proved to be one of the outstanding features of the occasion. The first prize, a hand-em- broidered ‘cut work buffet set, was won by Mrs. J. F. Fleitas, hile the consolation gift, finger- tip towels, was. presented to Mrs. Greyburn Pinder. The color scheme predominat- the: being _partiei-} a ing was pink and yellow, and was ‘carried out in detail in connec- |tion with the various décorations, twhich. as ‘a whole, presented * a scene. A-unique feature of ‘the : caf fair was a miniature bride.and groom learrying out the spirit of the’ levent, with little Catherine Moore lacting the part of the bride, -ap-! ‘pearing in full bridal attire. The’ youthful groom was William Pease Albury, who was bedecked in full Tuxedo. A coincidence of} this feature was that the given first, names of the miniature bride and groom are the same as those. of the bride-and-groom-to-be in whose honor the affair was given. The wedding march was ren- ;dered on the violin by Mrs. Paul Herrick, with the little bride and groom marching in, escorting the’ honoree of the occasion to the seat of honor where the gifts were! opened. There were ene 200 a in attendance, wil ' of beautiful.and ered upon’ the ee, a re-| cipient being kept quite busy fot : apap tokens of remembrance from her wide circle.,.of , friends, among whom she is exceedingly. popular. through her pleasing. personality; and charm of manner. FIRESTONE TIRES _| SHOW LEADERSHIP LOCAL DEALER TELLS ABOUT ' Rabbi D. B. Mendel, THEIR GREAT CON- STRUCTION According to Raymond Curry, new Firestone High Speed Tire for 1934 is the last word in tire con- stifiction-it is the greatest tire, Firestone ever built. “In no product today is there wider performance difference than in the various makes of tires at high speeds,” Mr. Curry said. “No other product is more vital for safety of motorists. The 500- mile race of past years at the In- dianapolis Speedway was recogniz- ed as a race of tires. To keep the tread on the body of the tire was the greatest problem due to the terrific strain and the heat gen- erated by internal friction at high Gum-dipping was the an- swer of Firestone engineers. the! xecent series. of stock me rbad “aves in® California, irgstone tires, have always been on the gpl cars. They are the mig ires the. motorist. yurchase Ste ‘his local dealer All the great racing drivers are fa- miliar, with occasions.when a driv- er using another make of tires had to slow up or stop at the pits for a tire change on account of .tread separation, The thicker the tread the more heat it holds in the tire—unless the body construc- tion guards against internal fric- tion heat,” continued Mr. Curry. “Gum-dipping the. high, stretch cords gives adhesion which welds the tire into one strong unit. This made it possible for Firestone to develop the first successful bal- loon tire in 1923, and has made possible other developments which have brought leadership based on performance. With the amazing advancement of tire safety and mileage, Firestone has always sought efficient production so that the motorists would pay no pre- mium,” Mr. Curry concluded. | |joyable -one.
