Mrs. Lillian Connally, of New York, who needs no introduction to Key West audiences, has direct- ed nine successful productions here in former years. With Mrs. Connally as producer, Key West society is assured this year of a cabaret more finished and more sophisticated than any given be- fore. MANY NEW IMPROV 1934 CHEVROLET NOW ON DISPLAY Incorporating an entirely new design of compression head and other features new to passenger car motors, the “Blue Streak” en- gine with which the 1934 ‘“knee- faction” Chevrolet is powered, is the most -powerful and efficient engine ever‘to be “pPoduced by Chevrolet. The,1934 model is now jon display at* the Meltzer Motor { Company. | Chervolet‘s1934 power plant is jnot only more powerful, but smoother, quietér and more eco- nomical than any of its predeces- sors. With the same bore and stroke — 3 5-16x4 inches — this year’s motor has a maximum out- put of 80 horsepower at 3,300 revolutions per minute and duces a torque of 150 foot-pounds through a speed range from 800 r.p.m. to 2,200 r.p.m. One of the most important im- provements effected in this re- head, development work on which was begun over three years ago and perfection of which involved literally upon thousands of gruell- proving ground. The -possibilities of this new éred thtee years ago when Chevro- {let engineers were:asked to design ‘a, nace;type engine with a ismall.,-piston displacement and high power. This naturally de- {manded valves of larger diameter 'that could be placed in the avail- shle space in the conventional manner. The design which accom- nlished the desired results paved the wav for the 1934 Chevrolet engine. General Changes To explain the general changes in the cylinder head in a not too technical manner, it might be said that Chevrolet engineers sycceed- ed in controlling, detonation in the head by absorbing the heat from the last gas burned and at the same time saved power and econ- omy by not absorbing heat from the gas which is burned.first. This was accomplished by an entirely different arrangement of valves and spark plugs—a new angle at which they function. In the new engine, the exhaust valve is located relatively close to the spark plug in the area of the first gas burned. The inlet valve is located at the dpposite side of the combustion chamber, farthest from the spark plug, in the area of the last gas burned. Thus the ed by one brother, | entire mixture is conditioned, be-| cause the heat absorption is con- trolled. In addition to this the Chevrolet cylinder head has the advantage of high volumetric efficiency, it- self a measure of the filling abili- ty of the engine and its subse- quent quick-action detonation when -the spark is applied to the mixture. The inlet and exhaust ports are also increased in area to insure red how |'free, unrestricted flow to the inlet valves and from the exhaust valves, which is also an important factor in attaining high efficien- cy. The spark plugs are located high in the combustion chamber, very close to the exhaust valves, entering the chamber at an agle witlt the.spark gap so placed that | it, is,always surrounded by fresh explosive mixture at the instant sof ignition.
