Jessie Livermore, Wealthy: Man Of New York, Missing; Believed To Be e Kidnaped Check Made By Police Of Hotels, Hospitals And Other Places Fail To Lo- cate Him (By Associated Press) NEW YORK, Dec. 20.— Jesse L. Livermore, wealthy stock market operator, was missing today under circum- stances that led his wife to tell authorities she believed him kidnaped. The department of justice today ordered its agents in the bureau of investigation, which handles kidnaping cases to enter into coopera- tion with the New York po- lice. A check of hospitals and. hotels and questioning of friends at his favorite haunts failed to, locate him. For 53 Years Devoted to the Best Intereats of Key West “}that only for reasons Reveals President’s Care To Nip Rumors Over Cause By HERBERT PLUMMER (My Associated Press) WASHINGTON, Dec, 20.— President Roosevelt obviously wantedto avoid any misunder-} standing or misinterpretation of Secretary William H. Woodin’s de- \parture from the treasury on a !leave of absence because of his health. For, though there was dramatic suddenness in the announcement of Woodin’s retirement and of the transfer of Henry Morgenthau from the governorship of the farm credit.administration to the treas- ury as its acting head, Secretary Woodin's resignation did not come as @ surprise. Reports have had him stepping out .as ‘head ‘of the treasury for various reasons, but each report has ‘been smilingly denied by the secretary and dismissed usually as a joke. It. was perhaps because of the fact.that in some quarters the idea has spread that Woodin is not in} sympathy with the President’s gold policy, that Mr. Roosevelt exergised unusual precaution in announcing the treasury secre- tary’s leave of absence. Paving The Way He employed the same method im announcing the treasury change that he used when he informed the {press he had invited Russia to send a representative to Wash-| ington to talk over the question of recognition. Then he was afraid newspaper headlines the next morning would proclaim to the world that “Roose- velt Recognizes Russia” nothing more had been done sjthe time than merely to pave the when| at! i Moved To Treasury. { i, I { Henry C.
