St. Louis New York FRIDAY, JULY 14, 1933. f SPORTS YANKEES BLANK BROWNS; SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN NEW YORK GIANTS DEFEAT CARDINALS AND MOVE AHEAD; DODGERS LOSE IN GAME WITH CHICAGO CUBS (Special to The Citizen) NEW YORK, July New York Yankees blanked ed up Lefty Gomez’ five-hit pitch- ing by bunching nine hits with as; many bases on balls off Bump Hadley and Hank McDonald to win the victory by a score of 12-0. This was the sixth straight vic- tory of the New Yorkers. The New York Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals as a result of which the Cards dropped into fourth place, a half-game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates while the New Yorkers kept three games ahead of the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs downed the Brooklyn Dodgers. This was Chi- cago’s eighth victory in a row. The Pirates beat the Braves. Pitts- burgh combined five hits with two Boston errors in an eighth-inning outbreak producing five runs and which broke a 3-3 tie, giving the Pirates the victory in a final score of 8-3. The Phillies triumphed over the Cincinnati Reds wher — the “ two teams swapped places again with Cincinnati dropping, back into the cellar position in. the League race. The Chicago White Sox came out_vietors over the Washington Senators as a result of which the Senators’ lead over the champion Yankees was reduced to a single game, The Cleveland Indians defeated Mackmen and the Tigers de- leated the Red Sox.
