DOUGHERTY; EVENING EXERCISES WILL | CLOSE OBSERVANCE SER { (CONTRIBUTED) | One of the notable features of the church is its assimilative genius. The church is alive; and it is a quality of living things that they have a capacity for obsorb- ing elements from their environ- ment for the purpose of growth and development. This absorption of human things and making them instruments of the Divine; this peculiar talent for taking purely worldly factors and endowing them with an attribute that is other worldly, is a para- phrase of the living principle of the church. An apt illutsration of tiful day, called Mothers’ Day. It is appropriate and fitting to all children to consider and appre- ciate their mother, for all the days and nights given to their welfare and comfort. § The chureh' tells her ¢hildren to make it a real day, not one only from a commercial side, painted up by the florists, candy » com- panies, gift shops, all of which have their own lovely appreciative value, but one thing worthwhile, more valuable than all of ‘these, one from the nobler side of his nature—his soul—his prayers— his Holy Communion for his Mother. Man is composed of body and }soul. Let him buy flowers to adorn his body, or to give to his mother, but let him adorn his soul in the sight of God and his moth- er will be better pleased. His is a personal gift with his soul and heart in the gift. - Father Dougherty will offer Mass at 9:30 for the mothers of Key West. Appropriate hymns will be sung at the Mass. At 7:30 the Catholic Daughters of Amer- ica—the Children of Mary and the Young Men’s Sodality will receive Holy Communion for Mother. Mothers’ Day will close with a beautiful and memorable service in the evening at 7:30, The young ladies and men of the Parish will be received into the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the moth- er of Jesus, who was given to us to be our mother by Jesus on the cross: “Son, behold thy mother, mother behold thy son.” Father Dougherty will give the reception talk which will be followed by the Sodality hymn and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. All are cordially invited, EVANGELIST TO HOLD SERVICES Beginning tomorrow evening, Evangelist Chas. E. Lacey, of Lon- don, Canada, will conduct a series | of meetings at 720 Southard street. The subject for tomorrow eve- “ining will be “How Many Times Must A Person Be Saved To Be Sure of Heaven?” + Meetings will be held through- out the coming week, and the pub- lic is invited to attend. CLEARANCE SALE GREAT SUCCESS The “Gigantic Clearance Sale”, which started at the Hub Store on Duval street yesterday morning, is a tremendous success in every way, it was stated. This store re- ports a gerater volume of business was done than was expected. All yesterday throngs of shop- pers invaded the store to take ad- vantage of the opportunity to se- cure clothing at reduced prices and there was many expressions of surprise at the really remarkable i values given, it is shown. MOTHERS’ DAY In loving memory of My Dear Mother and Sister, Margaret and Emma Niehaus, who died May 9th and 11th, 1911, Years and years has passed and still I miss them, Friends may think the wounds are healed, Little do they know of the -sor- row That lies in my heart conceal- ed, God loved them, too, so he thought best, To take them home to be at rest, And now they calmly sleep at last, All pain, all grief, all suffering past.
