ERABLE WORK BETWEEN NOW AND ADJOURNMENT (Florida Press) TALLAHASSEE, April 20.— Following: the usual week-end re- cess, the legislature swung into its third week, with members of both the House and Senate prepared to battle with the importarit. meas- ures. Numerous committee meet- ings and public hearings are being held each day. The Senate committee “beer” hearing was, of course, the major event of the week. Following the House hearing held last week and the passage of the bill by fhat body with a vote of 72 to 20, i hdry advoeates buckled up their ar- mor and marshalled their forces ;|in an effort to stem the tide by a decisive rally at the Senate hear- ing last Wednesday evening. The wets, spurred on by ‘the .| House victory, came determined to make it a complete triumph. Both sides plead their cause before ja packed house. Every foot of space in the Senate chamber, where the hearing was staged, was taken long before the hour set for the hearing. Hundreds were turn- ed away. The largest crowd Tallahassee has witnessed during the session took possession of the city. They came from every sec- tion of the state and during the day preceding the hearing worked like beavers to advance the cause they came to champion. Judging by the applause, the bulk of those present at the hear- ing were “wet”. but both sides were given a chance to present *|their case, though the crowd left little doubt as to their feelings. They were congenial couples who dined together once 4 week at the country club in good golf weather. And then, came winter —as the movies used to say. So, to speed winter on its way, one young matron, who liked lots of fun with little fuss, suggested once-a-week pot luck dinner at a different house each time, with each couple bringing a course. Very appropriately, almost everything came in pots— the sort that are easy, to cook in, easy to carry and easy to serye from. { The first course was a cocktail, and it came cold and frosty after the cracked-ice manner of cock- tails; then there was onion soup in those little French onion soup bowls which boast lids. The soup came in a big crock and was heated and then poured into the little bowls—which the soup course guest brought along with her—since séup must be piping hot.
