DOUGHERTY TO PREACH ° AT CATHOLIC CHURCH TOMORROW EVENING (Contributed) “The Complete Christ of the; Bible or the Divided Christ of, Man,” will be the subject of the second Lenten lecture in the series of “Christ of the Centuries” at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Cath- olic church, Mareh 19, at 7:30 p. m., by Rev. Dougherty. What think you of Christ? As: a man thinketh, so is he. The ‘philosophy characteristic of every age, finds its articulation in the current catch-words and catch- phrases of the day. The person interested in diseovering the phil- fesophy of religion dominant America today has but to to the glib utterances on all sides. Some sweetly say: “Accept Christ as your Savior—your Ad- vocate with the Father,” but they don’t say how much to accept; others say: “Believe in Christ,” but they cross their fingers and the belief is very limited; others swing to the other extreme with the pendulum of time and say: “Creeds don’t count, the life you live counts, It matters not what you believe, live the golden rule. Live one life at a time.” How did we get this mentality towards religion, towards the Bible and Christ? What is"the cause of this. misconception? Is God—or the Bible or the human mind—the cause? Father Dougherty will then ex- plain the cause of these miscon- ceptions and the principle that has subdivided the other churches— what Kant proclaimed in his phil- osophy; namely, that the suprem- acy of the human reason over Di- 'vine revelation and the consequent denial of ‘all supernatural truths. This spectre of Christ has haunted Protestantism and has di- vided and subdivided and caus- ed this indifferentism which is ending in the denial of all Chris- nity today. The speaker then will construct the complete Christ of the Bible. One grand Mosaic masterpiece—“The Christ of the Bible.” One organic whole, one person, true God and true man, Jesus Christ yesterday, today and forever—and show the sure solu- tion and correction of false .con- ceptions of Christ. Christ and see if yours is tical or a man-constructed Christ —that is, unbiblical—unreason- able and unprofitable for. salva- tion. All are cordially invited, Cath- olics and non-Catholics and their friends. Questions will be an- swered before the sermon. ~ . You have an expressive nature, ready to make friendships, but these should be entered into very cautiously, You should be care- ful of associations, and heedful of your walk in life. There will be many ups and downs, some of which may be serious.
