“PAGE EIGHT _peesecocccsoncveseanases <People’s Forum REGARDING PRICES "JN CIGAR BUSINESS p 2: Key West, Fla., Aug. 16, 1926. Editor Citizen. Sir:—We, the cigarmakers com- ‘mittee, wish to call your attention to an article which appeared in your paper a few days ago stat- ing that Thompson & Co., cigar| manufacturers, wanted to put a five-cent cigar on the market, but it seemed that the cigarmakers tommittee-had no prices for the low grade of cigars. ~ We want to say that we have aga for all grades of cigars from i lowest to the highest, and fur- thermore there was nothing said to fis about a five-cent cigar. The cigar in question was $18.50 per 4fousand, which they wanted the eigarmakers to make for $12.50, a six-dollar cut, which was impos- sible. Such an act as that would surely be disastrous to the cigar- makers, and Key West also, mean- ing more work and less money, and how are we going to meet the high cost of living in this way? ; < We, the cigarmakers are not like other workmen, we are paid for the amount of work we per-| . form and shéw up. Some men work fast, while others are slow, but few are making a good living iow, and we Would feel very sorry to know that in trying to help Key ‘West we must cut down our small wages which is not enough now to keep our families, ~= We stand ready at any time to help Key West and its factories, This committee has kept peace With the cigarmakets and the man- ufacturers tor long time, and e hope to continue to do so, hop- that this, will be taken as an Pxplanation of the situation, We Femain The Cigarmakers Regulating Sinmitire, .
