WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9, 1926. MONROE re) TODAY Corinne Here In “Classified” Tomorrow One of the most beauties of the screen, Griffith, First National star, was born in Texarkana, Tex., and was} edueated at Sophie Neweomb Col-} lege in New Orleans, Later the family moved to Mineral Wells, | Texas, where her father prac-! ticed medicine. Miss Griffith, seeking a field for aesthetic expression, went to Dallas to become a terpsichorean attraction at the fashionable Adolphus Hotel. She attracted the attention of Rollin Sturgeon, veteran cinema director, when she won first prize in a beauty contest and started her screen career in pictures under his di- rection in Vitagraph three-reelers. Later Vitagraph co-featured her with Earle Williams in five- reel offerings, then featured her in a series of O. Henry pictur- izations and followed this with nine starring vehicles for the now celebrated beauty. Remarkable work as a_ free lance followed, her role in “Black Oxen” attracting particular at- tention, this being the first of her productions for First National. to which concern she is now under contract. Her latest offering is “Classi- fied.” This is an adaptation from @ magazine story by Edna Ferber. It shows at the Monroe Theatre today. distinetive Corinne, TOMORROW Miniatare Ship Is Wrecked In Sea Motion pitture directors are depending but little on “props” and camera trickery and less on doubles, in these days of realism on the screen. But frequently there arises a provlem which re- quires quick ingenuity. When they were filming “Wreckage,” the latest Banner Production, featuring May Allli- son, Holmes Herbert, John Miljan and Rosemary Theby, it was es- sential to. present a shipwreck. Obviously, no enormous vessel could be sunk for the purpose of a single scene. According, Scott Dunlay, the director, conferred with Ben Ver- schieiser and the entire staff. The result was that a small craft was aequired and fitted out to rep- resent an ocean liner. Aboard this little boat the cast ventured out in a Pacific gale. A second boat followed with the camera- man. It was during this scene that May Allison and Holmes Herbert nearly lost their lives when a life boat capsized throwing them both imte the sea.. The scene turned out to be one of the most realistic and daring ever filmed, but some of the thrills in it were uninten- tional. Miss Allison was taken home suffering from nothing worse than shock, but for a few minutes those who watched her struggling in the water feared that she hau no chance, “Wreckage,” an adaptation from the novel “Salvage,” by Izola For- rester shows at the Monroe Theatre tomorrow.
