HON. W. J. SEARS 4th Congressional District of Florida Congressman Sears is clean, capable II ZPLLLEAAPLPZLLD LAL I have noticed several articles published in the newspapers of Key West purporting to be published by the friends of my opponent and in all of these articles an attempt has been made to make an issue with respect te a new County between Dade and Monroe Counties with its territory taken from Dade and Monroe Coun- ties and a; part of which would include the Island af Key Largo. County division with re- spect to Monroe County is not now and never has been a political issue, and my opponent has never appeared in one signed article charging me with being in favor of the creation of a new County in order that part of the territory of Monroe may be taken from it. The attempt to make it an issue is eminently unfair and all of the articles of the purported friends should be disregarded and discarded by all intelligent people. ANYONE WHO HAS SERVED IN THE SENATE OR LEGISLATURE OF FLOR- IDA KNOWS IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE FROM MONROE COUNTY ANY PART OF ITS TERRITORY WHEN THE SENATOR FROM THE DISTRICT STANDS OPPOSED TO SUCH ACTION. The matters which are material issues in this campaign and must be considered by the people of the County and particularly of Key West are as follows: (1) Whether or not Trumbo shall be in- cluded ingthe City of Key West. (2) Whether or not the railroad interests will directly oppose this legislation or attempt to make other offers with the view of postponing action at the next session of the Legislature. (3) Whether or not the southern boundary of the Tamiami Trail will pass through Monroe County, as heretofore agreed. (4) Whether or not the building of the Trail in Monroe County will be postponed until the Collier interests are ready to open their ter- ritory and then permit the southern route to pass through Monroe County. (5) Whether or not the railroad and other inter will directly oppose legislation to pro- vide actual cash State Aid for the widening and improving of the Oversea Highway, or will en- deavor to stave it off to enforce traffic over its line and force the County to trade with them on the water pipe line issue. I am not employed by and do not represent and have no connection with land owners who may be interested in creating the new County of Redlands. interested in or desire that Trumbo Island be kept out of the City Limits of the City of Key West. I am not now and never have been em- ployed by Barron G. Collier, or any of the land owners in Collier County and-could not be in- terested in any attempt to divert the route of the Trail in order that it would pass north of the boundaries of Monroe County, but, on the con- trary, I have always been interested in the Trail 2s it will pass through the northern boundary line of Monree County. It has been a time-long custom in political campaigns to judge a candidate by past acts and by associations and I am quite sure no one can truthfully say that Fhave ever made a pub- lic promise which has not been kept and, fol- lowing that custom, and in order that they may be no doubt about my stand on publie E not issues but have , | adviseyyou will be as fol- sues and matters which ar been injected in this campa that my platform and_ policy lows: ¥ I am ynalterably opposed to County division and to the taking of any part of the territory of Monroe County to be given to any other County, or in the creation ofrany County. I am opposed to permitting the railroad to further have control of Trumbo Island and will introduce and pass a Bill in the Senate to in- clude Trumbo within the territorial limits of the City of Key West. I will introduce and support any legislation which may appear desirable tor the protection and interests of our people engaged in the fish- ing and sponying industries. I will introduce and pass in the Senate any legislation which may seem necessary or desir- able to the members of the Board of the Mon- roe County Water District, as approved by the Board of County Commissioners and the City of Key West, or which will tend to aid in the bring- ing of fresh water to Key West, this legislation to include the right to condemn a right-of-way, if such course shall be necessary. I PLEDGE MYSELF TO DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO GET THE RAILROAD COMMISSION TO REDUCE THE RAILROAD FARE FROM 4.8 CENTS TO 3.6 CENTS A MILE FROM HOMESTEAD TO KEY WEST. 1! DO NOT SEE WHY OUR CITIZENS SHOULD PAY THE F. E. C. RAILWAY COMPANY 48 CENTS A MILE WHILE THE RAILROAD FARE TO EVERY OTHER POINT IN THE STATE IS ONLY 3.6 CENTS A MILE. Neither am I interested in or connected with any company or land holders owning lands on the Island of Key Largo who desire or would be interested in, or attempt to induce any one to further, legislation which would take Key Largo out of the boundaries of Monroe County. I am not employed by, inter- ested in or connected with the railroad com- pany, or any other interests which would be In all legislation this County I will ¢ taken from the ti touching the interests of efully see that all steps billy are introduced until they are finally passed by both Holise and Senate, having properly passed through the En- grossing Clerks up to and including the time when the Bill is presented to the Governor for his consideration, energetic and a real friend of South Florida are This advertisement by courtesy Herman Wolkowsky Respectfully, FRANK H.
