PAGE EIGHT TWO REGIMENTS ARRIVE AT FORT BARRANCAS FOR TRAINING PERIOD (Special To The zen) PENSACOLA, Fila., May 11,— With nearly one thousand men and “boys expected to arrive ‘i Pensacola between now and. Sep- tember, training began at Fort Barrancas today, with two regi- ments arri for anti gunnery, the 504th and 5th regi- ments of the Officers Reserve Corps, comprising forty officers and a number of — enlisted men, having reached this city - this morning, shortly thereafter re. porting at Bariancas, where tod they are being quartered, with tive training to begin at once. These officers and men repre- sent eight of the southeastern states. They will be in training at Fort Barrancas and Fort Pick ens for two ¥. and will be im- médiately succeeded, by members of the Organized Reserve Corps, who will train in heavy gunnery. The Reserve Officers Training Cérps ~ will arrive in ~ Pensacola June 11, with about 150 officers who will train here for six weeks. | On July 9 the boys who will train here in the Citizens Military Training Camps will arrive at Fort Barrancas, 450 boys having been allotted to Fort Barr: for this training, which will continue un- til September. Interesting in connection with the military training of the C. M. T.°C. at Fort Barrancas is the fact that 900 boys sent in application to‘train at Fort Barrancas, 700 of whom-had already been in train- ing “here, proving the popularity ofthe camp. ; So.far only 450 have been al- lotted as this scems to be ,the number which can be taken care of under existing conditions at Fort Barrancas. Important Feature The training camps have been in operation at Fort Barrancas now for the past four years and the coming of these officers and boys for military training has be- come one of the most important features of life in Pensacola dur- ing the summer months. Because of the fact that the commissary department at Fort Barrancas has found some diffi- culty in supplying the needs of the hundreds,of mcn who are tak- en care of at Barrancas and Pick- ens each summer during the train- ing season, a movement is now} underway among the farmers of the county to supply fresh vege- tables, eggs, fruits and other sup- plies for camp use. The government pays the, ex- penses of the officers and boys who train at Barrancas during the sumimer months, and the commis- sary department spends thousands of dollars on supplies. i - A special effort will be made this summer to furnish fresh vege- tables and other wholesome food for the camp from the farms of the county.
