PAGE TWO METEOROLOGICAL — NOTES FOR APRIL REPORT COMPILED BY H. B. BOYER OF LOCAL WEATH- ER BUREAU The following i the monthly metedrological report issued by H. B. Boyer, of.the local weather bhreau for April, giving a detail- ed outline of the conditions exist- ing during the month, passed: : This month, with a mean tem-| perature of 77.6 degrees, was materiaily warmer than the nor- mal April, averaging a daily ex- cess of 2 degrees. The period from the 3rd to the 15th, in-| elusive, was especially warm with ah ‘average daily excess of 5 de- Whe highest temperature, | ~ ‘was recorded on.thé 13th, and the -abiigrent, 66,,oceurred on. the rainfall for the month was ineh. which was 0.93 inch below the normal. Rain measurable amounts fell on 7 days, with the greatest amount in 24 hours, 0,21 inch, on the 26th. ce January 1st the total rain- as compared with the nor- amal, thows a deficiency of 2.91 inches. During the last 56 years the greatest rainfall for April was 4.99 inches in 1891, and the léast" Was 0.02 inch in 1871. ‘The- prevailing wind, from .the Oi blew from that direc- tion 202 hours, or 28 per cent of the time. With 7,421 miles as the)’ monthly wind movement the aver- age hourly velocity was 10.3 miles which was about normal, High winds» occurred on the 1st. and 16th with the maximum, 33: miles an hour from the northwest, on the latter date, although 32.miles|: an-hour from the northwest was recorded on the ist... Within. the pertod of record, 56 years, the highest velocity for this month was 50 miles an hour from the northwest on the 17th, 1923. There were 18 clear days, 5 partly cloudy days, and 7 cloudy days, with 307.7 hours of sun- thine, of 80 per cent of the pos- sible. One hundred per cent of sunshine was recorded on 9 days; 90 per cent to 99 per cent on 5 Mags; 80 per cent to 89 per cent on 4 days, and 70 per cent to 79 per cent on 6 days. There was some sunshine on every day dur- ing the month with the least, 9 per cent on the 16th. Thunderstorms occurred on 8|’ days, solar halos were observed on 8 days, and a lunar halo was noted on the 23rd. There was consider- able haziness on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 9th. H. He is the present Speaker of the Dominion House of Commons, of which body he has been a member almost continuously for 30 years. Born 60 years ago in the city of Montreal, he was educated chiefly at Laval University and after com- pleting his studies entered upon the practice of law in: Quebec. Under the Liberal administration of Sir Wilfrid Laurier he held sev- eral posts in the Federal cabinet. He is not without diplomatic ex-! perience, having represented the Dominion Government on impor- tant special missions to England, Japan and South Africa.
