The Florida State Board of Health, & its Mosquito booklet, suggests the aid of Boy Scouts in such endeavors, as follows: “In con- g@iacting inspections as a part of the clean-up pro- ‘gram Boy Scout organizations can often be drawn ‘Ypon to advantage. They are good, enthusiastic Morkers, good, keen observers and ambitious to undertake a task of this kind.” - CHILD HEALTH DAY President Coolidge has suggested that May 1 fag observed as Child Health day. Healthy children row up into healthy men and women who are Mkely to do good work in the world. ™ Many children who have: difficulty in getting through school, are really afflicted by physical de- fects which retard their mental development. For- merly it was thought that ali you had to do to obtain good schools was to turn children into a schoolroom and give them books and teachers. But "ff = child has an imperfect physical machine to Work with, his scholastic results will probably be beiow normal. you first meet them. ‘} seem specially interested in your ‘problems. Personality. SUNDAY EDITION CONTEMPLATED PRZEae y The management of The Citizen is, consider- ing the matter of publishing *a*inddern Sunday morning issue of this newspaper in Key West. The situation here * being carefilly “analyzed to as- certain if conditions will warrant’ the Sunday is- sue, and an effort is being made to dind, out if the | people in Key West desire it... Expressions from the business interests of the city are also desired with assurances of substantial encouragement for | starting a Sunday issue. If The Citizen meets with sufficient encourage- ment to issue a Sunday newspaper in Key West, } it will be a modern publication in every way, and will be a credit to the Island City both in service and appearance. It will not be a newspaper “hatch- ed over night in Key West” to live but a few days, but will come to Key West to stay. This arrangement would afford Key West a | splendid newspaper for every day in the week with sufficient news and feature service to meet every | reasonable requirement. The Citizen management would appreciate ex- pressions in regard to a Sunday morning issue for Key West. DEVELOPING PERSONALITY is a quality which the occupa- tional experts tell us we must have to achieve much success. But most people haye-only a vague idea of what personality is and how anyone can acquire it. “Personality” F. H, Beckmann, a San Francisco business en- gineer, gave several definitions of this quality ing a recent address. One of his ideas was that per- sonality is a quality as the result, of, which the | presence of somé people is desirable, and the presence of some is undesirable. There are some men and women who seem to inspire confidence the moment you enter into con- versation with them. If. you are doing business with them, you feel that they are going to look after your interests and that their advice will be good. A person that has this quality ;is practically sure to make good, provided such a one is not lacking in some important respect. This kind of gift is gained in different ways. Some rather silent and reserved pedple obtain it, | though they may not command jt right off when It may take. ume. to’ show up their good qualities, : One thing that enables many .to gain some- thing of that confidence at one» isthe display of & feeling of interest.in the people vie meets. There are some whose self absorption is constantly mani- fested. If they are working for you, they do. not At they are trying to sell you goods, they Stem inter- ested only in. making the sale. People of that type need to get out of them: selves, and show an interest in the people with whom they have dealings. They must not “merely put-on that appearance, but- they’ ‘must “actually feel that interest. Such a sentiment will give an appearance of cordiality and desire ito render use- ful service, and when peopld have that disposition they have much of the qualities that constitute ee WHERE DOES SWINTON COME IN? There was one man Noah; he built an ark. There was another. man Noah; j he built a spelling book. There -are many old- timers of us-teday who distinctly remember thumb- papering the old blue-backed spelling book and laboriously learning to ‘spell baket, horse-back, siroco, immateriality and incompatibility, during, | the days of long ago; but those books were built by Noah Webster and were universally known .as-| “Webster’s Blue-Backed Speller.” Where the name of Swinton comes in on this “Blues jacked” busi- ness many old-timers would like mighty, well to | know. “OLEANDER WAY" The Woman's Club through Mrs. J, M-avarro has suggested that the name of White street be changed to that of “Oleander Way.” Since oleander | trees are to line either side of this thoroughfare | as a part of the contemplated improvement and } beautification, and the oleander bloom has be: selected as the flower to adorn tlie sidewalks, a | more suitable name could not haye heen selected. | The White Street Civie Improventéht “Association | thinks so, and thiy‘suggestion of the Woman's club | was indorsed at a recent meeting ef- this organiza- tion. | With White street transformed into the wide and beautiful thoroughfare as “Oleander Way” would be a pretty and very ap- | propriate name, after the improvement program is completed. / is proposed, | | kindergarten the HS | ENEMIES i | | | BY CHARLES P.
